All that matters about Floyd is what he does in the ring. He does so many stupid things outside the ring that I don't know how you can really be a fan of his as a person.

I've also said a grip of times that 50 Cent is hella suspect. He's had so many friendships go south, then airs all this dirty laundry. But why be THAT cool with a dude that has all this negative stuff about him? Something's wrong with that dude.

My goodness this is fantastic!

Donaire, Walters agree to Oct. 18 fight

Nonito Donaire and Nicholas Walters will meet to unify their versions of the featherweight world title on Oct. 18 at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, organizers told ESPN.com on Wednesday night.

The fight, which is not yet signed but has been agreed to, according to Carl Moretti, vice president of Top Rank, which promotes both boxers, is due to take place as the HBO-televised opener of the card headlined by middleweight titleholder Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27 KOs) making his 12th defense against interim titlist Marco Antonio Rubio (59-6-1, 51 KOs).

The addition of Donaire-Walters adds a top-notch fight to a card that is already a hot ticket. According to K2 Promotions managing director Tom Loeffler, Golovkin's promoter, the card is already the fastest-selling boxing event to be scheduled at the StubHub Center, a venue that has hosted numerous fight cards.

"Even before this fight was made the response we've gotten to Gennady's fight with Rubio has been incredible. There has been a great response. This just makes the show even bigger and better," said Loeffler, who formally announced Golovkin-Rubio at a Los Angeles news conference on Wednesday, but couldn't announce Donaire-Walters because the deal with Top Rank was not agreed to until several hours later.

Loeffler worked with HBO and Moretti to get Donaire-Walters done even though K2 Promotions is not involved with either fighter.

"They are both Top Rank fighters, but we wanted to make the best fight possible even if it didn't involve our fighters (in the co-feature)," Loeffler said. "This fight adds a lot of value to Gennady's fight with Rubio."

K2 Promotions has a limited roster and did not have another fight it could make that would work as an HBO fight, but Top Rank also needed a slot for Donaire and Walters with dates and money from HBO running short for the rest of the year. Top Rank knew if it didn't make the fight for the Oct. 18 card there was a good chance Donaire and Walters would have had to sit out the rest of the year.

"These guys want to fight and we want them to fight, so this was a good spot for them," Moretti said. "The fight is agreed to and the paperwork is going out. It's a terrific fight. It's Walters' relative youth versus Donaire's experience. Walters is a strong, younger, hungry fighter. Donaire is an established pound-for-pound fighter, one of the biggest names in the sport still. It's not like Donaire hasn't faced guys like this before. We know Donaire has been there before. Now we'll see what Walters can do on this kind of big stage."

While the matchup shapes up as an excellent one it's not a unification fight in the true sense of the word, meaning titleholders with belts from different sanctioning bodies fighting to gain a second title. Donaire and Walters both hold world titles sanctioned by the WBA in the same division, one of the many things that makes little sense about boxing and leads to confusion. Donaire holds the main belt while Walters has a secondary version. A third fighter, Jesus Andres Cuellar, holds yet a third version of a WBA featherweight title, the organization's interim crown.

Donaire (33-2, 21 KOs), 31, a native of the Philippines from San Leandro, California, and Walters (24-0, 20 KOs), 28, of Jamaica, are both coming off victories on the same card on May 31 in Macau, China.

Donaire, the 2012 fighter of the year, won his title by dropping Simpiwe Vetyeka in the fourth round and claiming a fifth-round technical decision when the referee ruled that Donaire was unable to continue due to a cut caused by an accidental head butt. The fight was sent to the scorecards and Donaire was ahead 49-46 on all three of them.

By beating Vetyeka, Donaire - "The Filipino Flash" - claimed a world title in his fourth weight class (fifth, if you count interim belts) and won his second fight in a row since losing his junior featherweight title in a unification fight to Guillermo Rigondeaux in April 2013.

On the undercard, Walters, known as "The Axe Man," scored a dominating fifth-round knockout of aging former two-division titlist Vic Darchinyan, who had previously been twice knocked out by Donaire. Walter, who has defended his belt twice, has scored knockouts in 10 of his last 11 fights.

This year has been generally wack for boxing. All that momentum that was building up last year came crashing down. I'm bummed that the Molina/Soto fight doesn't look like it's going to be televised. That's the only fight other than the main I'm even looking forward to.

They're going to air it on the countdown like they did with Kameda Vs. Pungluang.

FWIW, I picked Dirrell I think to win the Super 6.

Another big time amateur trying to get fast tracked, not a huge fan of this here.

Light heavyweight Artur Beterbiev was a decorated amateur who twice competed on the Russian Olympic team (2008 and 2012), won a gold medal at the 2009 world amateur championships and twice defeated Russian destroyer Sergey "Krusher" Kovalev in the unpaid ranks.

Now living in Laval, Quebec, the 29-year-old Beterbiev (5-0, 5 KOs), who turned pro 14 months ago, is on the super fast track.

After making his pro debut in a four-rounder and then fighting scheduled six-rounders in his next four bouts, Beterbiev is stepping up to a scheduled 12-round fight for a regional title against former world titleholder Tavoris Cloud (24-2, 19 KOs).

Cloud, 32, is still regarded by many as a top-10 light heavyweight despite back-to-back losses, a decision that cost him his title against Bernard Hopkins in March 2013 followed by a seventh-round knockout loss challenging champion Adonis Stevenson in Montreal last September.

Beterbiev, whose wife gave birth to their third child a few weeks ago, will meet Cloud on Sept. 27 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, promoter Yvon Michel announced Wednesday.

Cloud, who may not be what he once was, has vast professional experience, good power and a good chin. But Michel is convinced that Beterbiev is the next big thing. This fight should go a long way to making that determination.

"Artur Beterbiev is an extremely special talent and we have a boundless confidence in his abilities," Michel said. "It is unheard of for a fighter with only five fights of professional experience to headline an event at the Bell Centre against an opponent the caliber of Cloud."

Canelo’s options for December: Andrade, Kirkland and Clottey

saul alvarez joshua clottey james kirkland demetrius andrade By D.A: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (44-1-1 31 KOs) has revealed his other 2 options for December other than James Kirkland, according to Univision Deportes and Vanguardia.mx. The other two are WBO 154 champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (21-0 14 KOs) and Joshua Clottey (38-4-0-1 22 KOs).

There was rumors of Andrade squaring off against Clottey next but there hasn’t been any confirmation nor any other signs pointing to that fight getting made.

Andrade a former US Olympian is in his physical prime and is coming off a brutal stoppage win over England’s Brian Rose. Clottey is coming off a win over Australian Anthony Mundine. I’m sure fans would definitely be more interested in Canelo fighting Andrade rather than Clottey simply because Andrade seems like he’d pose more of a threat than an aging Clottey.

Call me crazy but I’d bet Clottey could still beat a lot of these called “top junior middleweights”. Other than that no one really wants to see Canelo fight Clottey and definitely not on Showtime pay-per-view. Andrade on the other hand holds a legitimate title and the fight would have to be at 154 pounds and would answer questions regarding if Canelo can make 154 again.

According to Chepo Reynoso, Canelo’s manager, nothing has been finalized yet and James Kirkland is the front runner still. But should Kirkland fall through, the extra options would be Andrade and Clottey.

Andrade has fought on HBO his last couple fights and doesn’t have exclusive television rights to HBO either so it’d be a makeable fight. On top of that he’s signed to Banner promotions who has no issues with Golden boy or Showtime.

Andrade though has only had 1 decent test in Vanes Martirosyan whom he beat for the vacant WBO title. Andrade won a split decision which was a joke because Andrade clearly dominated every round after being dropped in round 1.

Then Andrade pummeled Brian Rose in a brutal fight which Rose hardly through any punches and got canned from start. While Andrade looked real good against Rose, we should not think that’s how he’d look against a live body.

Its great Andrade wants every top fighter but until then we can’t base his skills against a punching bag in Rose. But if Canelo wins his next couple fights, we definitely could be seeing Canelo fight Andrade in the future, maybe even late next year. And even possibly at Middleweight due to Canelo will eventually fight at the weight and Andrade is a big guy and tall for a junior middleweight standing at 6’1. But still count on Canelo vs Kirkland sometime in December. Stay tuned the announcements should be here soon.

Robert Garcia: Maidana will make it a different fight against Mayweather this time
August 28th, 2014 | Post Comment - 108 Comments

By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Robert Garcia believes that former two division world champion Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs) is going to be fighting at a much higher level against WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) in their rematch on September 13th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Garcia points to the additional 4 weeks of training that Maidana will have to train for the fight this time compared to the previous time Maidana fought Mayweather in May of this year.

Maidana had only 5 weeks to get ready for the fight, because Mayweather was having a tough time trying to decide between Maidana or Amir Khan for his May fight. Mayweather eventually decided it was better to go with Maidana because of his recent victories over Adrien Broner, Jesus Soto Karass and Josesito Lopez.

“We had about five weeks for the first fight, and even though Chino came in already semi in shape, it was still not the same,” Garcia said. “This time he came here nine weeks before the fight, since we started training full camp. We had a good eight weeks of training, so I think that it’s going to make a big difference. Five weeks compared to eight weeks of training makes a big difference for this type of fight, and I think with everything that he’s doing and learning new things, they’re going to see a different fight this time.”

The main difference we’re going to see from Maidana this time is going to be his stamina rather than his fighting style, because he’s already pretty much set in his ways in terms of his fighting style. But just fighting harder is going to make Maidana a lot tougher for Mayweather, because it was Maidana’s stamina which eventually failed him last May, causing him to lose the fight after he ran out of gas.

If Maidana is able to continue to fight hard for three minutes of every round in the second half of the fight, then Mayweather is going to have a lot of problems getting his shots off due to the constant incoming from Maidana.

I don't like all of the aggression coming from Maidana camp. You can pick up the pace all you want, until you start getting tagged. I'm not a coach, and obviously that whole camp is light years ahead of me in terms of experience. Yet, common sense would tell me that not working as hard would get you the stamina you need. Even if your plan is to bomb on someone for 36 minutes, that game plan will change real quick if Floyd decides to throw laser jabs and hit him between shots rather than turtle up like he did last time. I mean how can someone be that blunt about it? "Let's just throw more punches for a longer time". Really? That's your adjustment?

Good to hear Canelo's next fight won't be on PPV.

Canelos next fight wont be on PPV, most likely HBO..
Eric Gomez told ESPN.com

“Canelo isn’t going to go pay-per-view. We don’t want to saturate the market. He’s willing to go live on either Showtime or HBO. We’ll see. Maybe another network. He has no contract with any network. We’re working on things.”

most likely Dec. 6 Canelo-Kirkland at Alamodome on regular HBO...
