FRI Jan 4 @ ESPN2 - Allan Green v Rubin Williams (168LBS)

SAT Jan 5 @ SHO - Paulie Malignaggi v Herman Ngoudjo

FRI Jan 11 @ ESPN2 - Edison Miranda v Donny McCrary (168LBS)

Any thoughts on Green & Miranda comin in at 168?
Where does Paulie stand in the ranks of the jr welterweight div (140)? Should Hatton take a rebound fight against Paulie??

FRI Jan 11 @ ESPN2 - Edison Miranda v Donny McCrary (168LBS)
Jean Pascal v David Banks (168LBS)
Actually, McCrary pulled out of of this fight, so David Banks (who was on the Contender) is going to fight Miranda, and Omar Pittman (15-3-1, 8KOs) becomes the new opponent for Pascal. David Banks might be carried out of the ring in a body bag!

What's going to happen is that assuming both Pascal and Miranda win (which they both should easily), they will fight each other sometime down the road. The two of them have been talking major shit to each other and there is a genuine hate between them, which is why they are co-featured that night (this is a build up fight).

This is what Pantera said about Pascals last win, shit is comedy!

“I came all the way from the sunny weather of San Juan to the snow in Montreal, to watch nothing more than a club fight. They pulled Jean’s opponent right out of the circus to give him an easy night, but it was the opposing clown who stole many rounds away from Jean. If this guy thinks he has any chance in beating Edison Miranda he better go back to school and learn how to fight like a real man. The only thing that impressed me was the wonderful fans of Canada. I admire their desire to see a great fight, but felt bad for them with this disappointing circus event that Pascal delivered. They came out on a snowy cold night and were given nothing to cheer for during this bout. I will ma! ke a promise to these great fans. When Edison Miranda comes back to town they will have a reason to cheer. Listen to me Jean: by the end of the night, you will be lying on the canvas and 15,000 fans will chanting ‘panthère’ (French for Pantera). You are nothing more than a Chinatown boxer.”

If/when they fight, it's going to be a war!

Here is the two of them when they first met:

I guess he should be ranked in the top 3 or so, but personally I hate that Paulie queer. Hatton should definitely stay at 140 and a fight with Paulie seems like the logical step, although I'm really not all that sure Hatton will be able to beat him either, as much as I hate to say it Paulie is a good boxer and can take a good shot (see his fight against Cotto for evidence), and Hatton seems so one dimensional I'm not sure if Paulie just doesn't out-box him all night.

Allan Green v Rubin Williams
Not sure I ever saw Rubin Williams before but I'm assuming he's not that great and Green is going to destroy him. I like both Green and Miranda at 168, especially Miranda since he was killing himself to make weight. His fight against Pavlik he was very week and dehydrated (although it probably didn't matter much). I think Miranda does well in this weight class, probably moves all the way up to the top 1-3 fighters, Calzaghe will be gone so he may even get a belt or two.

I think a lot of the top 160 fighters mightve had the same problem w/ making the weight.

And i hate to see JC go up to fight B Hop cuz he's leavin right when things r gettin interesting.

To be honest with you, I just simply hate Calzaghe for some reason. I really tried to be a fan too, downloaded a bunch of his older fights, watched his most recent fights live against Kessler, Manfredo......there is just no way around it, he's just another faggot from the UK.

What I hope happens is that Hopkins embarrasses Joe, Tarver style. Just dominates him in the ring. But, if Joe does manage to win somehow (definitely wouldn't be by KO), then I would like to see him fight the winner of Pavlik/Taylor. I think either of them beat Calzaghe by KO (and yes, for the first time in my life I would actually cheer for Taylor!!).

But I hear you though, super middle is becoming very competitive

btw, I found this today which will surely go under the radar:

Peterson Bros. Get Tough Tests On Jan. 4

On Jan. 4, the talented, undefeated, world-ranked Peterson brothers, Anthony (25-0, 18 KOs) and Lamont (23-0, 11 KOs), of Washington, D.C., face dangerous assignments in the 10-round co-featured bouts on the 2008 premiere of ShoBox: The New Generation (11 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the west coast).

Anthony, a lightweight who is ranked No. 1 in WBO, No. 6 in WBC and No. 13 in IBF, faces Mexican champion Guadalupe Rosales (25-2, 15 KOs) of San Luis Potosi, Mex.

Lamont, who is ranked No. 6 in the WBC and WBO at 140 pounds, will be opposed by fellow unbeaten Antonio Mesquita (34-0, 26 KOs), a Brazilian now residing in Las Vegas.

Arthur Abraham? I'm not sure if he's going up to super middleweight or not, he would be wise not to. I hope he has a rematch with Miranda though, that first fight was bullshit

Well, in b-hops defense he looked REALLY impressive against Tarver, then with Wright, well that's just a bad match up for boxing because it's a fight between two guys that make a living off of making the other guy look like shit, so I dunno if it's fair to judge him just yet based on that match. It was ugly and pretty much everyone knew it was going to be ugly. But you're right, he's old as dirt and eventually his time will run out.

REALLY impressive against Tarver
to be honest i think Tarver is all hype or default. I dont think u have to be great to make him look bad. maybe thats why im pullin the age card 4 hopkins cuz I dont think Tarver is much of a fighter. His confidence and willingness to go 4 it isnt there, he's too passive

maybe he is/was. He was ranked in the top 10 P4P at the time though. Regardless though, I think b-hop has a legit shot at beating Cal. I mean Calzaghe doesn't have KO power, what he has is speed and a high work rate. Nothing Hopkins hasn't already seen. Plus he's a southpaw and Hopkins is 11-0 against southpaws.

btw, I missed both Allan Green v Rubin Williams and Malignaggi vs Herman Ngoudjo. I heard Malignaggi struggled with Ngoudjo and didn't look too impressive (which makes a fight against Ricky Hatton more of a possibility).

As for the Allan Green fight, the last two rounds are on youtube, followed by a recap by the ESPN crew. From what I gathered he dominated the fight, but it went the distance. Semi-boring fight, but a good win nonetheless.

Yeah u didnt miss much w/ the Green fight. He didnt come with a KO the way I was hoping, although he got homie a good few times and rocked him. As for Paulie - WOW. He looked like the challenger in the 2nd half of the fight. He was being dominated by Ngoudjo. I wasnt keeping score but damn just from the looks of things the Magic man wont be champ long. His lack of KO power was all too evident. He can take a punch but 1 of these days he's gonna get out boxed somewhere far away from his homebase, and lose a decision.

U catch the Peterson Bros fights? Those were pretty entertaining. They look to be on the up n up. They have a GREAT corner in terms of keepin it real and giving the right instructions .. lookin good 4 both of em

Once Teddy mentioned Allan Green's tendacy at looking down at his feet, that's all you could notice... he was doing it 15 times a round! It didn't stop him from dominating Williams, but it will be a major problem with other top guys if he doesn't get it corrected.

And I didn't think Paulie looked good either. That decision could've gone either way. I can't stand this guy. I don't think he'll be a "champ" for very long.

^^Interesting. Good info.

Were the Peterson brothers fights worth downloading, you think? I'd like to check those out.

Don't forget tonight, ESPN2, Miranda vs Banks, and Pascal vs Omar Pittman

"My work with Banks is already done," Miranda told Fightnews.com. "I'm ready to win by knockout, nothing else. Banks can beat the fighters of the Contender, but not a real professional fighter like me at my caliber." Pantera said the fight he wants is the winner between Pavlik and Taylor. "I'm looking for big fights like Calzaghe or Trinidad. I don't have to prove anything. I proved it with Arthur Abraham, I prove with everybody. The last option is Pascal."

_-_-_-_-_-_

Pascal, meanwhile has directly targeted Miranda. "I can't wait to fight the Pantera, but I must focus on Friday night because I must win on Friday night to kick his a-- in June," said Pascal. "I'll show Miranda Friday night I'm the best and he can't even think of beating me. He pushed me so I'm going to punish him on June 7th in Montreal. It's a promise."

I missed the Peterson fights, other than a few minutes on a replay where I saw Anthony fighting the other dude that was using a ton of dirty tactics...

But I'm looking forward to tonights fights. Banks is a little better than people think, but Miranda should still handle him easily.

yeah that KO was right on the button from the top. Miranda looked a little fat. He needs to tighten it up a bit or not put on so many pounds b4 the fight.

I hope that ref doesnt ref any big puncher fights. I dont know why in God's name he was even counting, i mean damn u gotta protect the fighters.

As for Miranda improving. I dunno I saw his last fight and this 1. His offense is always there. I did notice that Banks was gettin in some good shots, granted they didnt have much power but he found some openings. Miranda will tighten Jean's ass right up. I dont see it as a good measure to see if he's ready 4 the big boys of the division, so whats the point? THen again fluff fights that end in big KO's can lead to big payday fights.
