Borat gets a Black Eye over Sex Advances to a Man
written November 14, 2006
Borat got beaten up badly by a passer-by in New York when he tried to make a joke. He sustained a black eye as well.
Sacha Baron Cohen is the the actor behind the comic character Borat.
The passer-by lost his temper when Cohen approached him, as a Borat and said: "I like your clothing. Are nice! Please may I buying? I want to have sex with it."
The New Yorker failed to see the joke and punched Cohen in the face, and continued to beat him until Cohen's friend, actor Hugh Laurie, pulled the enraged man from Cohen.
"Sacha couldn’t resist playing the fool as Borat, but picked on the wrong person," a friend of the comedian told the British tabloid, "I guess this guy thought he was being attacked by someone unstable and lashed out."
The incident took place after Cohen had appeared on "Saturday Night Live" to promote his new film, "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan."
Sacha Baron Cohen did not receive any visible bruises, but the actor has been advised to not attempt publicly portraying Borat, for fear of incidents such as these.
Now, he has joined the cast of Tim Burton's "Sweeney Todd" after the smash success of his film "Borat."
Cohen will play Signor Adolfo Pirelli, rival to Johny Depp's Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Todd teams up with Helena Bonham Carter's Mrs. Lovett for a plot involving murder and meat pies, Zap2it.com reported.
The film from DreamWorks/Warner Bros. will begin shooting next month, aiming for a late 2007 release.
Cohen's "Borat" film has taken in more than $67 million in the United States in its first two weeks in theaters. Cohen has also inked a deal with universal to bring a second character from "Da Ali G" show to the big screen, Austrian fashion reporter Bruno.
