Anybody into the next generation dvds? It just sucks that there are two formats out so it's either one or the other. Anybody have either one and what are your opinions. Right now i'm just waiting this shit out. Cuz I don't want to end up buying one format and next thing you know it gets discontinued just like the vhs vs. beta. And it just fuckin sucks switching formats and rebuying shit just to keep up with the new technology. I went from tapes to cds. Now its regular dvds to high definition dvds. And I ain't trying to switch from one high definition dvd format to another. And that would mean buying another dvd player to be compatible for viewing. Technology is crazy.

it depends on what tha porn industry uses because they put out the most dvds, so whne they choose the rest of the movie industry will make the same decision..same thing happened when dvds first came out

i have a 50 inch plasma and it wasnt till i got this baby that a whole new world opened up for me i would have never looked into. HDMI cables and component cables as well as a 1080I UPCONVERSION dvd player too.

Some of the porn industrys companys have annouced plans.

Porn studio Digital Playground Inc., which claims to have produced the largest number of high-definition movies in the industry over the past three years, said it is choosing Blu-ray Disc for all of its “interactive” videos because of its greater capacity. It also selected Blue-ray because Sony chose the format for its PlayStation 3 (PS3) box, due out in November.

Its simple, where there is video games there is going to be porn. because who plays the games....teens and adults and what do they also like....PORN.

Anyhow, I am in the same boat as you, I do not want to invest in a collection that is going to be outdated or go bye bye within 2 years. I want to know who is going to win the battle and its a tough call. people argu that ps3 has blu ray so it will stick around cause of all the people that own it but think again cause one could argu that xbox 360 has an HD-DVD player as an add on you can buy and play your hd dvds through the 360. Im personally gonna ride it out and wait. But if you dont have a plasma or a big screen of any kind, i dont think you have reason to switch. I do since i have a 1080I capable screen thats playing 480P movies with no upconversion on my current dvd player. For now I am going to go out and buy an upconversion 1080i dvd player from circuit city which will take my standard dvds and convert them up to 1080i so the picture is not so damn pixalated.

There already has been announced a player that is compatible with both types of discs. I see no reason why in a few years this will not be common place.
Does this player require two separate lasers? First I've heard of it - that could destroy the format 'war' completely and make both of them viable. I suppose it depends on how much this player costs compared with individual HD-DVD or Blu-ray players.

I think Blu-ray will win the format war. The disks are better than HD-DVD disks, the only problem is that they cost more. Of course, the final deciding factor is cost (all about them dollar bills), but I think you'll find the cost of producing blu-ray disks will drop dramatically over the next year or so. Support for both formats is relatively equal, just the fact that Sony have put blu-ray drives in every PS3 gives them a significant industry advantage though. I think blu-ray would be the safe bet, I'm not going to put all my eggs in one basket right now though.

blu ray discs wont go down in price because dvds will always be around the 20 dollar mark.
Not price to the consumer, but cost to the manufacturer to produce the disk. The bigger the factories and the more high-throughput the manufacturing process, the cheaper it becomes.

Warner Brothers are going to come out with dual format DVDs so they can play on both blu-ray and HD-DVD players. It's still bullshit that you gotta have certain players for certain DVDs.
