Chauncey Billups officially opted out of his contract Monday, making him an unrestricted free agent as of July 1.

"Chauncey's first intention is to come back to Detroit, and we'll continute to explore that as an option, but if we're unable to make a deal with the Pistons my obligation is to look at other possibilities that will provide long-term security for Chauncey and his family," agent Andy Miller told ESPN.com.

Billups was due to make $6,819,000 next season in the final year of his contract, which had an early termination option.

Pistons president Joe Dumars has consistently said he is confident the Pistons will be able to re-sign Billups, whose negotiating leverage will be impacted by the small number of teams with significant salary cap space.

Milwaukee and Memphis are two teams with cap space and a need for a point guard, but neither team is expected to have enough space to make a better offer than the one Billups will get from Detroit.

Only three teams are in the running for Billups... Milwaulkee, Memphis and Detroit.

Detroit can offer the most money out of all of them, and Chauncey doesn't have much desire to leave.

He's most likely staying in Detroit, but anything can happen.

But he's not gonna take 5 million to go to the Lakers when he'll probably get 13-14 million from the other teams.

The Lakers reportedly are in talks with Minnesota trying to get K.G.

I know the Lakers don't have the loot to sign Billups but if he wanted to play for a contender he should sign with L.A. (to make them into a contender) and assuming they get K.G. somehow they'd have to be the favorites (Kobe, K.G. and Billups). The Lakers would smash folks.

We wont pay him enough
Wasn't it at the beginning of Kroenke's ownership when they still had Billups and let him sign elsewhere? Or something like that. I never understood why you would want to part with adding an additional 2-3,000 fans per night.

Absolutely...they would be overmatched. No doubt about it. In a 3 game series...they might have a chance, if Kobe scored 82 points in the first 2 games...

But to beat these teams in a series? NO WAY.

Hell, they could double team Kobe and KG, and the 5th guy could practice yoga will Phil; the other Lakers would still be standing around with thier thumbs up thier asses...

And Kobe would shoot the rock. LOL

Either way...I don't see it happening. The Wolves would be foolish to do it. Odom and Bynum???

That's highway robbery!

If K.G. would come to L.A. to play with Kobe, Kobe wouldn't need to score all those points that he's used to scoring even though he's capable of doing so. It would be hard to double K.G. and Kobe.... I want to see them play together. I think they'll school everyone in the West (besides San Antonio). K.G. vs Tim Duncan in the Western Conference Finals?

The L.A. Lakers vs The Miami Heat in the finals? Shaq and Wade vs K.G. and Kobe? It's possible... San Antonio is the only real concern.

Yeah the Wolves would be foolish but they may want to see Garnett have a legitimate shot at winning an NBA Finals so they may look out for him and send him to the Lakers to team up with Kobe.

Kobe wouldn't need to score all those points...?!

Why did he feel he had to with Shaq on the team? And Payton? Malone? ETC?

LOL...that's his game! He's a scorer. He's not going to change with KG in the lineup.
