There's a lot of things I could say or that I want to say about this topic, but I'm sure someone else will say it. I'd just like to say why Tupac appeals to me: because he couldn't make up his mind on who he was or how to best represent himself.

Every other rapper I've heard is pretty damn sure about who they are - they have a self created image and try to stick to it. Its probably not a real image either.

Tupac had such a hard time figuring out who he was and what his image was all about because he was actually trying to express his real self, recreate himself, learn, and make himself better. It was this struggle to find himself that made him appeal to me so much. Have you ever heard the quote "Be wary of the man who says that he has all of the answers, but learn as much as you can from the man who says that he knows nothing". He was searching for truth, and the ups and downs of his opinions were tied in by his perspective and his emotions and the ever changing world around him. That's a real man right there. He didn't settle for the thug life, fame, and money - he really did want the answers. When you have everything in the world, but your quest is to make yourself a better person and enhance your mind - not so you can make more money or have more success - but to be a better person, I think its a very respectable thing.

Granted, this is what I read into all of it, and its my opinion about him, nothing more, nothing less. You probably think I just glorified the man's entire life. I dont think of him as a god or anything. But i do consider him a great man. I've felt this way since I was old enough to listen to music with parental advisaries on them.
im not on a hate campaign against pac fans.
i was stating hes not the greatest.

i wish id never mentioned him.

ive only got a handful of krs one tracks.
i volunteered his name based on reputation.

my point was hes the only rapper i like that would have any
chance of being the greatest. the others i like dont cut it

hey you made a great point..the king of conscious rap is even a bad influence.
that just shows even more how low rap has gone.

only way i see pac greatest is on quantity of material & arguably lyrics.
his rhyme flow seems basic even though alot of current rappers copy it.

biggie had a better flow but his lyrics were abit embarrassing sometimes.
musically they both fell short IMO.

well if all rap was posotive, there would be no way to relate to it and no one would buy it, ghetto teens would no longer buy it and neither would the people that could relate to the posotive side, cause they listen to country and jazz and shit, and they dont like the rap vibe. if you take away the negative content, you get pop rap, which is the worste music ever, it would completely change rap as we no it, and there would be no point in listening to it.nothing to relate to, it would be str8 lame

aint no bubble..i dont think being well known ie "sellout" can gain you greatness.
tupacs case is alot stronger than biggies for GOAT due to the amount of recorded material.

i do respect them for making money & having a fun life but i dont respect there musical
or lyrical content very much. both ahve thier moments but they rapped alot of bad shit.
Go somewhere with that sell out nonsence! It seems if anyone is succesful nowadays they are sell outs, its the biggest cop out i ever heard. Just because something is popular doesn't mean its not good, if it wasn't good it wouldn't be so damn popular. I guess in your eyes Jay Z and Nas are garbage too. If you are so into socially concious rap just go and bump some Chuck D or Paris and be happy as a bug in a rug, personally that stuff is just not for me. I don't listen to rap to be preeched on or taught some history lesson, I learned enough of that shit by going to school.

Tupac and Biggie arent even close to the greatest of all time. The only reason cats thik this is because they are dead, thats that. Cats like KRS-1, Del, Kool Keith, and Gangstaar are greats, you know why because they are still alive doing music.

How can you say one of the greatest rappers is some who raps about blue flowers and a bunch of other created characters that have nothing to do with your life. I mean they are good rappers but great I dont think so. Del is a good rapper too but I cant say that he influenced people. Deltron 3030 was good but it has nothing to do with real life. Gangstarr well you can make a pitch for him cause he is talented and will be one of the greats. He still holds together all the elements of hip hop. But to say that biggie and tupac werent great is just wrong. People follow the bible and everyone that wrote it is dead so does that not make the bible great? Just cause some is dead doesnt mean that what they did wasnt great material.
