yeah cuz we all know independent artists get 9 dollars a unit...... stop believing them fairytales
so pressing up your own albums, then selling them out your trunk for $10 a peice at 2000 units = in the end is $20,000 in pocket...(1000 CDs in Full Color Sleeves - only $989.00! from cdpressing.com) x 2...bout $2000..flyers...lets say he pressed up 5000 (4x6 club card flyers for $200($199) according to psprint.com)...additional shit, well just throw an extra $1000 in the mix...

so..

2000+1000+200 = $3200 SPENT (give or take) who knows could have pressed 10,000 and only sold 2000...

2000 x $10 = $20,000 IN YO POCKET (doing your independent grind, not with a major or distribution)

AFTER YOU PAY FOR YOUR SHIT (which you already have done before the CD's where sold anyways)

$16,800 in your POCKET ALL YOURS.

Your CUSTOM CHAIN...yes they look like they a 100,000 grand but naaa..

thats if dre wouldve been selling all his shit out the trunk and even then he wouldnt be seeing 10 a unit.. cuz ussually rappers that sell they shit out the trunk only charge between 5-7 dollars a pop anyway so 10 dollars a cd is out of the question... you know how hard it is to sell 2000 units in the bay area ? its hella hard to do it with radioplay and distribution let alone out the trunk.. and you can check some of the soundscans ( there is a thread on it here) its pretty depressing

lol what he gotta pay for ? you serious ?

uhmm.. lets see..
-promotion (no promo no sales.. word of mouth alone is not gonna do the job)
-the stores (they take their share obviously)
-the distributor takes their share (digital distribution aint free either and you cant just depend on that alone anyway)
And ofcourse the costs of making the album.. engineer, studio time, beats, artwork etc.

In the end you might end up with 3-5 dollars a unit depending on how much you spend. Its very hard for independent artists with distribution to even push 5.000 these days the more popular indie bay rappers that actually live from rap money live off SHOW money. Most rappers in the bay dont make that much money off sales thats a fact

did u not see me knock off 200,000$ dollars off of dres profits?

50,000 X 10 is 500,000 dollars. i said dre probally gettin 200,000-300,000 of his sales.
1. hes not on a major. hes on THIZZ ( his independent label) im sure he did his homework and owned a good % of his publishing if not all of it..
2. hes on CITY HALL DIST. which im sure is no where close to Universal/sony/koch dist.
3. promotion? what promotion, most people dont even kno who mac dre is and dude moved records like cake
4. some one posted bay area artist sound scans on this site before, i think the lowest selling Thizz artist was Johnny Ca$h around (1,850+) albums..mac dre had about 3 that pushed more than 50,000+...everything else he dropped did 10,000-20,000+
5. MOST RAPPERS PERIOD dont make money off of rap sells because of MAJORS, thats why people are pressing they own stamps up and hittin um up for 10 a album..
6.if a BAY artist could hardly move any units, what gives them to power to make major money doing shows? if no one has they CDs, why would a promoter beleave in these artist to do a show..

you said..i need to stop beleaveing fairtails like people actually get 9-10 a album..which is sayin a artist can't go out there and slang his own shit for his own price?..

you can slang your shit for whatever price u want but it dont make sense to sell your shit for 10 a album when everybody else is charging way less thats what i meant.

And you get shows based on your PUPULARITY and the interest for an artist is not always measured trough SALES. The reason sales are steadily decreasing is mainly cuz of bootlegging and downloading so just cuz you sold 5000 doesnt mean 5000 people own your album it just means 5000 people BOUGHT it. Damn near everybody i know in oakland owns son of a pimp and trust me thats way more then 8000 (what he sold).

A hot single or just a heavy street buzz can get you hella shows without having sold ONE single unit. Mr fab first album sold about 8k and he by far one of the most popular artists in the bay gettin money doing hella shows cuz he is whats poppin in peoples eyes. Cuz he has a buzz that he created.

And forget all that out the trunk shit like dude said this aint 1995 the bay rap scene is hurting you can still eat but dudes is fighting over crums.

Only indie bay rappers that were/is eating pretty good off sales were mac dre and yuk both of them had/have steady fanbases and moved DECENT units. Everybody else may have had one album that sold cool but overall never really moved more then 15-20k (nowadays way less).

even if he worked hard or not hard for the chain, its children with sponge brains that don't work right that'll try to achieve this material status. i ain't rich's financial advisor and its not really bout him but as a whole as an adult as a role model a lot of these rappers need to make it clear that it's nice to have nice things but you need to explain the grind in getting it BUT sometimes they give off the impression that the "grind" is some illegal shit and it's A-OKAY instead of hitting the books and getting a real career and that's when i think shits backwards. i just wanna point out that it is okay to treat yourself once in awhile for your hard work and maybe this is the case for rich's chain

when you know the money could be put to use towards a better investment for the future is when one shouldn't splurge on yourself. you don't want to go all out like hammer and lose all your shit cause you just spending spending spending and homer takes your mansion and change it to HOMER TIME
