You can all have your opinions on this, but I think its funny that the SEC is so arrogant, and that the only other conference in the nation who will rebut them is the Pac 10. The SEC gets the credit they deserve, the Pac 10 does not, but in either case, year to year, theres no denying SEC and PAC10 are conferences #1 and #2, no matter what the order. Agree or disagree, I Fucked Your Mom and XPanther?

Btw, the Pac 10 is the best conference in the nation this year.

Autzen staduim, db wise, is the loudest in the nation. It registered at 128 Db's for the Sun Devil/Duck game 2 weeks ago.

However, Husky stadium measured at 130 db's in a game vs i beleive Braska over a decade ago....

Beaver Stadium is the 2nd largest stadium in the nation, and it isnt even in the top 10 of loudest stadiums.

Lane stadium in in the top 3 for loudest stadiums, often it is listed 1 or 2.

The Big House can range anywhere from 1-10.

But, these are all mostly OPINION, as you will find ESPN, SI, Sout.com, and various blogs all have their own resons as to WHY one stadium is louder than the next.
Agreed, this is even less of a scientific process than ranking conferences.

I do miss the days when the Dawg Pound rocked. Hopefully those days aren't too far away from returning.

1) I definitely don't agree w/ that, I wish I could. I've spent the last five years defending the Pac-10 to Midwest folks who mostly think it's trash. But there's no way the Pac-10 is top 2 year to year. The SEC is #1 or #2 I'd say atleast 7 out of 10 years, but I'd say the Pac-10 is #1 or #2 4 out of 10 years.

I remember 2000 was probably the last time the conference was indisputably #1 or #2 nationally. That was the year Washington finished #2, Oregon State kicked the shit out of Notre Dame, and Oregon was also a damn good team.

The era of USC dominance unfortunately didn't see as many strong 2-5 teams of the top of my head.

2) Well I just spent a lot of time and energy on defending the SEC in general, but when it comes to this year specifically, I'm still undecided.

*** Now in hoops, it's just the preseason, but it sure is looking like the Pac-10 is the #1 conference in the nation.

The Big House is really fuckin' quiet.. It has terrible acoustics. It's built half underground, so the ground eats up the crowd noise. Plus, the fact that its built in a shape to get as many people in there as possible, with nothing for the crowd noise to go into, so it just floats into the air, a lot of times.

Plus, the fans in the front rows at a lot of games are the alumni, and Michigan alumni for the most part piss me off because they never want to make noise, they scream at you for standing up and getting into the game.

However, Michigan is supposed to make some renevations that will add boxes for the alumni to sit in, which will line the whole top of the stadium, and this will also provide better acoustics for crowd noise.

Yeah those Bowl shaped stadiums are all classic looking and stuff, but terrible for noise. That is one of the reasons that even for solid programs like Cal, the stadium atmosphere in the Pac-10 is generally weaker than that of the SEC.

Until Stanford, Oregon State and Stanford remodeled or built new stadiums, literally 7 of the 10 teams in the conference had bowl stadiums w/out a second deck of seating. Now that number is down to 5, and yes Oregon somehow has managed to create an awesome atmosphere with that bowl-like design, but still that's not good. In the SEC only Vanderbilt I believe has a stadium like that, all the others are sideline heavy seating with a big upper deck.

But w/ 110,000 folks, it doesn't matter as much if it's a bowl, it's still got to be a pretty cool site. Never been to the Big House, I've been to the Horseshoe and that was impressive.
