Benzino 1st Week Sound Scan....Survey says!!!!!!!!!!!lol

Benzino's Sound Scan Results
Thursday - January 23, 2003

Fans and industry insiders alike have speculated that Benzino’s attack on Eminem was nothing more than a publicity stunt to sell his album. Whether or not that was his intention, it did not help his sales.

In the first week of its release, “Redemption” sold only 14,463 units. In comparison, Eminem’s “The Eminem Show,” which was released at the end of May 2002, sold 49,000 units last week. The 8 Mile OST sold another 86,000 units as well.

“Redemption” was released via Elektra and included a free 3 month subscription to The Source with the purchase. This is the first time that Benzino (including his Made Men and RSO albums), has sold more than 10,000 in his first week.

^^ yep,
i think if this whole 'situation' he's been involved in, never took place, i think most of you wouldn't be fans but you would say 'he's ok' and if he was from the west coast a whole bunch of you would be fans. too much bias against certain people.

Benzino - one of the worst
50 cent - one of the best
^^ that's fuckin ridiculous

that's just how i look at it.

Ed OG...
you bringing back memories w/ that 1...
don't forget gangstarr is from boston
& they still doing shit.

but now:
read benzino's interview in the latest source
w/ *grimace* ja rule on the cover. he actually
has some real good points to bring up about
hip-hop & white/mainstream media & how they
have taken to eminem at the cost of many of
hip-hop's black talent. there's a lot of kids out
there who, when they say they listen to hip-hop,
mean: "dude, eminem is a genius but tupac was
a 2-bit punk." this is not a hip-hop generation
i'm a part of.

while benzino isn't the best equipped to take
these issue's on, at least somebody is. while his
racial motives may be questionable as well, he
aint scared to bring it up. too bad he don't got the
lyrics to back it up huh?

a lot of y'all here like eminem, but y'all have an
appreciation for the underground & show that
by being here. believe, there's a whole audience
out there of people who see eminem as "safe,"
& that's only because of his skin color. he may
pistol-whip somebody, but he isn't a young,
black gang-banger from long beach facing
a murder rap. he may threaten to kill his
wife on wax, but he's no up-&-coming
basketball star murdering his pregnant
girlfriend. he's safe, y'all get that?
there's something fundamentally wrong
with this paradox, but it's all-american.

benzino even goes on to say he respects
eminem's talent (who couldn't?) & that there
is the machine behind eminem that he's against.
the man isn't dumb, he's just as misguided
about some things as is eminem.

oh yeah, y'all should also read the article by
harry allen in the same issue. it's an article
the source wouldn't have published a year
ago & for that low move they get the finger,
but harry allen is 1 of the smartest journalists
in hip-hop today. you don't have to agree with
him, but you should listen.

my 2 cents.

@tha rippa:
the above quote was coming from somebody
not qualified to compare the 2. eminem was the
1st (&most likely the only) hip-hop record this
dude bought. (& yet he says he listens to
hip-hop.) he's see's pac as a punk because,
primarily, he's black. yet pac doesn't talk about
raping & killing his mother, killing bitches, or
excessive use of drugs. eminem does. this
dude doesn't know what the fuck he's
talking about.

i think comparitavely, over all,
eminem shits on 2pac also, but
2pac, when he got in the zone, he was
lethal. (his verses on "2 of americas
most wanted" & "dusted & disgusted"
serve as good examples.) & in that
zone i don't think eminem could have
fucked with pac. pac, unfortunately,
fell into some heavy drinking & smoking
near the end & began repeating himself,
which was sad to see happen. 2pac
was an unfulfilled genius.

Guru is from Boston as is Big Shug

Preemo is from Brooklyn - not Tezas.

As for repeating himself, Eminem has been doing that for the last 2 albums. I agree Ems wordplay and association is at times genius but is also at times predictable.

I believe Eminems success has helped the hip hop community as a whole (both black and white), He took real rap lyrical expertese into the mainstream. Hopefully making it easier for people like Loki or Lynch to be heard and accepted in more diverse circles.

Americans are more hung up on race than the rest of the world so i agree, this is a very American situation and discussion.

As for Benzino - Eminem is an easy target for a rapper with a new album to promote, its pretty lazy really.
Benzino has some points to make but im sure his thinking is at least 50 % marketing.

^^^"As for Benzino - Eminem is an easy target for a rapper with a new album to promote,"

true. i can count a few underground cats calling out
lynch for the same purpose
