I don't know what happened to the Marc Ecko poll/thread I started, but here is what Barry Bonds thinks of the whole situation:

Barry Bonds does not think much of Marc Ecko, the clothes designer who bought his 756th home run ball for a shade more than $750,000 and is asking people on the Internet how to dispose of it.

"He's stupid. He's an idiot," Bonds said. "He spent $750,000 on the ball and that's what he's doing with it? What he's doing is stupid."

Bonds' issue with Ecko was not that one of the three choices on the 756-ball ballot is sending it to Cooperstown branded with an asterisk, an implication that his record is tainted by alleged steroid use. Bonds merely suggested the guy could have found a better use for three-quarters of a million large.

The other two options are giving the ball to the Hall of Fame as is or blasting it into space. Bonds pooh-poohed the poll after insisting he heard nothing about it until a Chronicle reporter related the story.

"All of those options don't weigh anything," he said. "In baseball, that number (756) stands."

Thus, if the voters pick blasting the ball into space, do not expect Bonds to watch the launch. He has other issues on his plate, foremost a sprained right big toe, which remains sore. Although he said it felt a little better, he shook his head no when asked if he was getting close to returning.

$756,000 got him on ESPN, and probably every other major network news broadcasts. As well as a website which will get hits like mad. Its promotion for him and his company.

i agree...

ty, thing is, people arent fans of attention whores....

its not the first time ecko did something for attention...

some of yall might remember he broke into a airport and tagged george bush's private jet..

i give him more props for that....and fighting the grafitti law....

but that barry bonds shit...for 750,000? thats just weird man
i agree he coulda gave 750,000 to new orleans to rebuild

instead of having to make a statement about a player on a team that isnt even on his coast

do u have any idea how much advertising u WOULD get for that much?
nowhere near as much as this......
This is the first time I've even heard about it, but I gurantee cause he bought that ball nobody is gonna think to themselves "well marc ecko bought bonds 756th homerun so I better go buy some of his fits"....and erryone knows that word of mouth advertising holds more weight then any gimmick.

You're mistaking *attention* for advertising, sure alotta people are gonna hear about it, but he's not advertising anything except the fact that he's an idiot, that ball should be in a museum not in some collectors hands. He's gonna get negative publicity for this more then positive, if anything it will hurt his sales....

when your clothing line is your last name and everyone mentions you own ecko clothing when your interviewed and talked about on NATIONAL television not reaching 20-50,000 readers in a magazine that cost you anywhere from $20-50,000 to get, and studies shown that print ads dont even work, theres nothing better then gettin national not regional TV coverage, newspaper print, etc. for your company and telling everyone to go to your website to vote where you can also buy your clothes. very smart. well worth 750k since theres already a percentage of sales catered toward marketing and not to mention its a write off, hes not losing a penny.

notice they have tits/pussies.

just wanted to point that out for you.

and everything on tv is annoying. we dont watch tv because its entertaining, we watch tv because weve been doing it since we were children and if we dont, we'll miss something about the world. (supposedly)

and that said without getting too deep..we dont really dictate whats on tv...or on airwaves on radio...i mean to some degree we do but were mostly spoonfed anyway

heard/seen his clothes might cop em now...
which is the same thing if u advertise right???
u can buy billboard/tv/billboard/ect space,
but does that mean every1 who sees it will buy it?

You're right publicity is publicity, I see what you mean. Take the superbowl for example, you gotta have millions just for a 20-30 second commercial. This will bring him more attention then any sales, but I'm sure it will help his sales in some way.

marc ecko didnt really do that for promotion in my eyes.

hes the type of person that makes a statement.

although he wasnt a big grafitti artist himself hes bred from the same cloth, and graff artists tend to do things to make statements, if not a statement to just full on say "look at me" or piss someone off, which is basically the same as "look at me"

i think marketing wise marc ecko could have done alot more with 750,000 to get his name out there but he was taking the "michael jackson hangs his baby off the roof" route.

the problem i have with it is hes no longer making a individual statement, something that he fueled, hes taking a issue and spinning it based on the ignorant ass public....and involving another persons life in it...

i mean did he ask barry bonds what he thought? is that not important?
its hella weak for homie to take the fate into his own hands like that...

he shoulda made an option to give it to bonds himself..
