Boxing>MMA

The only two that get props are silva and fedor for the fact that they actually got top skill and are elite with their groung game and also have some of the best hands I've ever seen. The rest of the morons come out swinging like its a fucken bar fight. And lol @ only going 3 rounds, try going 12!
Jens Pulver 4-0
Marcus Davis 17-1-2
Keith Jardine 3-0-1
KJ Noons 8-2
Alessio Sakara 8-1
Chris Lytyle 13-1-1

These are a few of the well known fighters who had a professional boxing career and didn't do too bad. I guess if these MMA fighters can't throw a punch what did it say about the boxers they beat. Also it's pretty funny that you list Fedor when his striking is so fucking ugly dude is throwing wild, looping punches(like a bar fight). For the most part tho I agree, a bunch of MMA fighters need to work on their hands. It's hard tho when you have to work on wrestling, muay thai, jiu jitsu, cardio, strength, etc tho.

Also if you've never grappled for 5 minutes straight you don't what the fuck you're talking about. Shit is more tiring than standing up and exchanging punches.

They were a bunch of bums, literally. A lot of those guys fought mostly dudes with losing records, like Alessio Sakara for example never fought anyone with a winning record, everyone were chumps, well scratch that the one time he fought someone with a winning recorded he got KO'd.

Not sayin these guys didn't have boxing backgrounds, just sayin their winning records can be deceiving because almost everyone in boxing starts off with winning records (cuz they are fighting chumps and gaining experience).

Boxing for MMA will never look like boxing in a ring though. The mechanics and angles of throwing and landing punches without a boxing glove on is totally different, MMA gloves are much smaller meaning less movement is necessary, but also that punches can slip through guards much easier.

Also, boxing movements for MMA have to be abbreviated, obviously because of the fact that at any time you can catch a kick, knee, or a shot while throwing punches.

Compared to a boxer in a boxing ring, of course an MMA fighter's boxing will look nothing like a boxer's would in a boxing match. Boxing for MMA is sport specific, so they use what is effective in the sport, and because of the angles and smaller gloves, wider more looping punches are much more useful in an MMA fight than they are in boxing.

Meh, who wants to watch 12 rounds of two dudes dancing around, occasionally throwing a combo, then hugging until the ref separates them? To me it's just boring. I understand the boxers are skilled at what they do, but to me they're as exciting as someone very skilled at knitting. I can respect the skill but have no desire to watch either exercise that skill.

Yes the stand up looks different in MMA than in boxing. The fighters have to defend against kicks and take downs. Not to mention that they don't have 2 giant pillows on their hands to hide behind for defense.

Whatever floats your boat I guess.[/QUOTE

First off, I will admit my bias because I am a boxing fan!! But what is interesting is that these (as you call them) pillows, are what actually make boxing soo dangerous. When one gets hit squarely with gloves used in ufc, many times, one gets ko'd immediately. However, boxing gloves cushion, to some extent, the blows, and the repeated blows, especially to the head, cause the excessive damage. So, to say pillows, as tho they protect the fighter, may, in fact, make boxing much, much more dangerous.

Also there's some pretty good boxers besides Anderson and Fedor. Freddie Roach said BJ could go pro if he wanted to. Cro Cop had something like a 45-5 record before he switched to kickboxing. Marcus Davis was 17-1 before he started MMA. Vitor 3-knockdown TKO'd a guy in under a minute in his only fight.
Freddie Roach is trying to get paid by working with MMA fighters of course he's gonna say shit like that. Also records like 17-1 are extremely deceiving. There's so many boxers + boxing shows that it's insanely easy to build up a record in boxing ..

Break down that record and Davis beat 10 fighters with losing records, 3 fighters making their debuts, fought to a draw with a 10-11-4 fighter and got stopped by 10-6 Ed Bryant AND THAT'S WITH THEM PILLOW GLOVES! If Davis felt he could make it in boxing he WOULD have. A white kid with an irish background can make some money in boxing all he has to do is beat the bums put in front of him .. just look at John Duddy.

and here's Jens Pulver on boxing when Mercer Vs. Sylvia was still a boxing match..

.. and fuck you IronLung for starting this stupid ass shit.

this thread turned gay.

if you like mma more than boxng thats great.
if you like boxing more than mma thats great.
no reason to bash the other sport.
This is the best reply in this thread. I like boxing AND MMA both. I'll be watching UFC 103 and Mayweather/Marquez this weekend.

We should make a rule for this forum that if you start this gay shit(boxing is better, mma is better, wah wah wah, etc.) you get banned.

It is pretty much an end-less discussion. Neither side will ever budge and both sides have their points. I agree, just try to appreciate the positives of both and carry on.

You won't get any argument from me on that one. It's funny when critics complain about MMA being so dangerous to the fighter's health. An athlete is more likely to get permanent brain damage from playing soccer than they are from an MMA career.

LOL @ Dana White.

What a faggot. I would gladly pay to see him in a match up against Juan Manuel. No one knows who JMM is? IMHO JMM beat the living shit out of Pac-Man. Both guys are pretty equal in terms of skill.

MMA kicks Boxings ass. Boxing is one dimensional. While MMA mixes a shitload of fighting styles. So if fighters from the two sports fight each other who is going to win the guy that knows who to do one thing or the guy that nows how to do a shitload of stuff. Plus the boxer wouldnt know how to stop the stuff besides the punches because he hasnt trained or prepared for it.
