I don't know about that man, I think forums like this are a lil different than a social networking sites like Facebook. Sure we are socializing, quoting each other, giving props or disagreeing, but it's different than checking in and positing pics of every activity you do in life. This is a "discussion" board in which discussions tend to drag on. Social sites like FB are pretty much a "live" feedback system on what your doing at that given moment in time and it's on to the next moment when your over the other. I see it as life displayed in text and images. I don't even think their really comparable, they provide different ways of conversing.

I'm not trying to come off as a hater, just more so concerned with the direction it's heading. Sure we evolve, but I think there's something wrong when a lot of people do question the purpose or intention of social networking. I'm more so trying to analyze and understand the human behavior in why people do what they do within a social network.

It doesn't bother me because I par take in life too. I do everything else, everyone else does, I'm human. I enjoy questioning things, like I've said, this is a very deep topic, everyone is entitled to their opinions, but the more feedback the better, there's no right or wrong answer IMO. I think both those for it and against it have valid opinions, me personally, I'm stuck in the middle. I see the benefits and I see negatives.
very well thought out response bro and i definitely respect your opinion......but......how is it different again?? i mean really different?

you mention that forums like this and social networking sites are different because on these forums we dont "check in" or post pics of activities we do in life. On the contrary, we do that here all the time, especially in the open forum. People discuss where they went, where theyre going, ask questions about places. People post pics of shit they cook, parties and events they were at etc.

My point is that its all relative. They are definitely comparable just in different formats. In a way message boards such as these gave birth to more modern social networking. Modern social networking has shown what society is as a whole these days, people living in excess, less morals more fun more living. It can be taken as a positive and a negative but to sit back and comment on what other people are doing or the way in which they broadcast is a waste of time, imo, because every person is different and you'll never be able to fully understand what makes a person or group of people as a whole behave in a certain way whether you approve of it or not.

great topic.

Yeah I feel you, but social networking takes it to a higher level when compared to just a message board. Way more options to express yourself I would say and it's practically instant.

I'm not trying to knock social networking though. I actually think its kind of cool the way it works. The technology behind it is amazing when you think about it. The way people are able to gather thoughts, images, etc.. in an organized fashion to express themselves. Brilliant concept, yet still scary IMO though because people tend to live in a virtual bubble. People are starting to live through the computer, than through actual physical reality.

Your right though, it ain't worth trying to decipher all this because there's far too many variables. I'm just trying to understand how and why we are evolving like this though and in the end will it be for the better for the worse of society?

I only have a Facebook to talk to friends that have moved out of state (some out of the country) and to look at pictures of hot bitches I used to go to high school/party/fuck with, a few which I have hooked up with again thanks to Facebook.

I update my status on average around once a month and it's usually drinking quotes that I like lol.

Facebook is a cool network for somethings but like everyone said some people update their status, check in, post a pic, etc of every little fucking thing in their life and that gets annoying as hell. If I don't delete them I usually block them from showing up on my wall.

About the whole partying/drinking thing I really don't know. I've partied/drank hard for over half my life now and the majority of that was well before Facebook, Myspace, etc even existed.

Emma is right you can permantely delete your facebook account.

Also evolution, no I think facebook is taking people backwards.
it's dumbing down society... and not letting them communicate with each other face to face..
with real human contact.. families now have hardly any contacts..
the kids texting.. the day talking to a whore on facebook..
the wife gossiping at teh dinner table..
but no one in the family speaking to each other...

Google + is even worse .. work of the devil I tell you!!

People aren't partying/drinking more because of Facebook and other sites...it's just more in your face now than it was before.. Years back there wasn't such an instant way to share what you were doing, now there is. That's the difference.

I never used the check-in feature on FB, but I posted this shit as status updates in a 20 minute span to show people how ridiculous they are:

"Checked in at the toilet"
"Checked in at the shower"
"Checked in at the dresser"
"Checked in at the pantry"
"Checked in at the sink"
"Checked in at the couch"

There's a dude I know who checks in to every fuckin' place he goes. Actually, quite a few people on my friends list do that. Un-fuckin'-believable.
LOL. the Social Network(s) like Facebook is taken over and isnt going anywhere anytime soon. but when ppl start using it to notifying everyone that theyre going to sleep or take a shit, really takes away the "experience" that got people interested in the first place, to get that "college experience" right in the palm of your hands as the movie explains why Facebook has gotten popular in the first place. but yeah, its weird how they call it the Social Networks when in reality, its more like you dont have to be social at all to do anything anymore now a days. Add that bitch with no repercussions. Have you guys ever run into people where on the internet, theyre loud as a book, but in person, quiet as night?

Yup! It's given everyone a voice, that's for sure. Whether that voice is being true or not to itself, that's part of this problem of understanding who's who. Who's being real, who's being fake, it's all a game these days. :ermm: I think a lot of people online are hiding their true self for the sake of being socially accepted into today's realm of socializing and that's one of the issues I see with SN as it grows bigger.

I don't think the creators originally thought it would become this huge in people's everyday lives. But I think even them now and all corporations are simply taking advantage, just look at all the advertisements we face each day. It's all interconnected.
