Does boxing count?
Ok I know a little of Gracie Jiu Jitsu as well but I'm taking Muay Thai soon.
You gotta learn a few striking techniques to compliment your ground game and there's really no better way to strike than Thai boxing.
You can't beat the bat swing like shin kicks, the brutal short range elbos, and killer knees. I'll take this as long as I feel confident enough to strike with the best of them. After that it's back to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu....
If anyone's looking to get into combat sports whether it's boxing or MMA, I cannot stress enough how important conditioning is.
It's not a coincedence that the best fighters in the world have the best stamina. Do your cardio guys, whether it's running or swimming, just do it. (Hell do both while you're at it).
I don't care how good your submission or striking skills are, if I can take you into deep waters where you've never been; you're in my world and you WILL drown....
For those of us who are lucky enough to live in the Bay Area, we have tons of MMA gyms out here. The Bay is home to many MMA fighters and many of them have their own training facilities open for the public.
Hell, the Gracies have studios all over the Bay....
