I'm considering a move there (long story) but all I keep hearing and reading about is how bad the economy is. My wife knows a couple people that live there and they say it isn't that bad but they already have jobs. Anyone live out that way and what's your overall take on living in the city?

what kind of work are you interested in?

and how much are you looking to pay for rent?
I work at Cox Communications right now and my background is electronics but I'd consider working for one of the Hotel/Casino's. It's pretty cheap here in Oklahoma City but house prices are pretty cheap it looks like in Henderson which is where we plan on moving. Hoping to spend about $700-$725 a month in rent or so.

OLD (Downtown) henderson might have cheap rent
NEW Henderson is a bit higher priced

der is a Cox here

$725 rent aint gonna get you a great location for a house, maybe a decent location for an apartment tho.
Highest unemployment in da country, most foreclosures in da country... but it it still looks like the same Vegas to me. Muh fuckas are still thriving and den some are barely making it like anywhere else.

Yeah, Cox is there and I had an interview set up to transfer over there but it was too short notice, they wanted me there in a week and I couldn't get set up to move that fast at the time. Cox is doing really good in Oklahoma but people are cancelling service like crazy in Vegas so I'm worried about getting laid off if I transfer so I wanted to see how difficult it would be to get a job if I got laid off at Cox.

I've never actually been there though, just to the airport. We're moving to get closer to family in cali but I don't wanna live in Cali. Vegas area kinda gives us the best of both worlds.

I guess we'd be looking for an apartment til I get my credit right, then try to swoop a house while they're still cheap if we can

There's PLENTY of nice villa style apartments for rent around the community near the convention center, and from the amount of nightlife walking the street(none), I'd venture to say it's a decent spot in town.

I'm coming from a once only experience with that area, so take that into consideration before you quote what I say as golden.

My cousin is living pretty laid back over their. He rents a nice 1 bedroom apartment in summerline for about a $1000 a month. Summerline is the rich part tho. I've seen Bentley's, phantoms and lambos parked at target like its nothing. I know its near red rock casino. He works at chase as a teller, DJs on weekends and gets lucky at the casinos. Sports betting is where he makes bread tho.

I don't think these are the ones I saw, but here's something to get you started.

dats not near the convention center.

right around the convention center you have an exclusive type country club, hi rise condos (both out his price range) but most the rest of the joints in dat area are of the run down ghetto variety..but prolly in his price range. they aint all fucked up tho.

no state income tax either.

Any areas to flat out avoid living in? I have 2 sons under 2.5 years old.
If that's the case, why even move to Vegas? I know a lot of couples who ended up moving out of LV just for the simple fact that they don't want their kids growing up in that environment and a lot of people saying the same. Kids growing up thinking that smoking, drinking and gambling all day everyday is normal.

I've known people that lived there and swear up and down the whole city isn't that way. I'm not raising my sons on the strip in vegas.

Oklahoma has the 2nd highest number of Casino's of any state after Nevada, so it's not like there aren't casino's here too. More people smoke here than in western states as well. Parenting isn't easy in any state and it's my duty as a father to teach them right from wrong regardless of where we live. If I thought they would be in any real danger, I wouldn't move them there.

That's why I said "I don't think these are the ones I saw" because I knew they weren't. They were, however, the first thing that popped up on Google.
