I'm thinking of getting a Tivo box w/a DVD recorder... Anyone using one of these? Or is anyone using one that's networked to their home network? Is it easy to get TV shows/movies to your computer? Do you have to use certain software? Any problems with it? Thanks

I have a Comcast DVR and use a firewire cord straight to my comp, open a program and press record and it's recording to my computer. So, I can just burn to DVD from my computer if I want.

Can you transfer the data rather than playing/recording from the DVR?

TiVo is the stuff dreams are made of.
If you can get the one with the dvd burner in it, do it....
I checked it out, but it only holds 40 hours... The 80 hour one is $100 cheaper and there isn't an 80 hour one with a DVD burner... I already have a home network and a DVD burner on one of my computers, so I can just use that...

Buy the cheapest tivo with the smallest hard drive...go out and get a huge 200+ GB hard drive off ebay for cheap and
clone the original tivo drive to the new bigger drive and you will have a 300+ hour tivo.

I also do uopgrades if anyone in the bay area is interested hit me on my PM. I have 7 years experience upgrading tivo's. I first got my 10 hour tivo in 1998 when noone knew about tivo. It was $500 and a $100 lifetime subscription. I still have the same Tivo, 7 years later, and it holds 440 hours of shows!

yeeeee

holla at me if you need your tivo upgraded.

Can you move files off the Tivo? Say if I put an extra HD in my computer, can I copy the files over for storage there rather than upgrading the Tivo unit itself? Or to get the files to the computer do you have to convert them out of Tivo format?
