I was born in SF, raised in SF and the Peninsula and live here now. I have been a Niner fan my whole life and watched every game for the past fifteen - twenty years. That guy would get the crap kicked out of him just like Steve Young and get up and do his job. .
Thanks for your background. Dont ever compare Steve young to Jeff Garica tho. He was the complete opposite of Steve Young. He was a good QB but nowhere near the level of Steve Young.

You tell me when the last time was the Niners had a decent offense, the last time the Niners made the playoffs and the last time the Niners had a Pro-Bowl QB and that all happened when Jeff Garcia was on the team. He has shown his ability to run and offense and control a game with mediocre teams since.
Yes he was a good QB, no one is denying that. It wasnt like he single handingly carried the Niners those years. He did what on the Lions? The Eagles dont count, plenty of back up QB couldve stepped up and did what he did. If he wouldve made the Lions into a good team, you would have a point.

It always makes me laugh when Niner fans are critical of Jeff Garcia because he kept the Niners afloat for a good 3-4 years when they should have sank. Especially about his toughness since he stayed in there and took hits just Young.
Rex Gossman kept the Bears alive and took them to a super bowl, is he a great QB because of that? I saw countless times where Garcia avoided the hit and threw the ball away to avoid contract. COUNTLESS times.

He never took a hit like Steve Young, show me a play where Garica dove head first or even dove for that matter. You cant.......

But then again you also said Alex Smith "continues to improve" in that bust thread about a week ago, I know we are only 4 weeks in but he certainly hasn’t looked good once all season or pre-season so maybe you need to watch your television a little more closely.
You never watched garica play so watch your TV more closely or rewatch those games since you missed them the first time. And I never said that Alex Smith was improving once this year, try again.....

I'm pretty sure the Niners won't get #1 pick if the year goes down hill becuase didnt they give up their 1st round pick next year to New England or someother team to get Staley? they got the pick back from Indy, but I doubt they'll have the #1 pick.

idk quick, i gotta somewhat agree with maddog, Garcia isnt that bad of a QB, i was mad when they let him go as well, not any qb coulda stepped it up in Phi like he did, its just he needs a OC that can call plays that fit his playing style, thats why he sucked in DET and CLE, cuz their OCs didnt have plays that fit him well, hes doing pretty good in TB, and i still think he can play.... remember, he was a Bill Walsh player as well....

Update: Apparently ESPN’s Ed Werder is full of shit. As most ESPN talking heads are. Word is now that ESPN mentioned “tendons” in the report, when infact it is “ligaments.” So at this time we are still where we were the other day and the 49ers are still standing by Smith not needing surgery. Per Matthew Barrows, 49ers head trainer, Jeff Ferguson, is friendly with Andrews and has sent Andrews a copy of Smith’s MRI results, which is standard procedure. So basically ESPN got us all worked up for nothing.

———
49ers quarterback Alex Smith is seeking a second opinion on his injured throwing shoulder, which might lead to season-ending surgery, according to an ESPN.com report.

Smith will consult with Dr. James Andrews after preliminary MRI exam results indicated he appears to have suffered a serious injury to tendons in his right shoulder during the 49ers’ 23-3 loss to Seattle on Sunday, a source told ESPN.com.

If the diagnosis performed at Stanford is confirmed by Andrews, the source said, Smith is expected to have corrective surgery immediately even though he would probably miss the rest of the season.

Answer me this, is he on the same level as Montana and Young?

If he had the same supporting cast as they did, he could be close.... Garcia put up numbers and broke records that they made for SF....

49ers want second opinion on ESPN report

Don't panic about that ESPN report regarding Alex Smith's shoulder. Smith is not seeking a second opinion from noted orthopedic surgeon James Andrews at Stanford as ESPN reported last night. Instead, the team's head trainer, Jeff Ferguson, is friendly with Andrews and has sent Andrews a copy of Smith's MRI results, which were taken Monday. It's standard procedure at this level.

I thought the ESPN piece seemed funny when it mentioned the serious tendon damage Smith had suffered. Instead, Smith suffered torn ligaments, which are expected to scar over and heal on their own. Smith certainlly suffered a serious injury and his collarbone is detached from his shoulder. But the collarbone is essentially in the right spot -- if it weren't, there would be a need for surgery -- and Smith is expected to make a full recovery.

No offense, but it doesn't seem like you watched Garcia play. He took hits all day and shrugged them off. He's still doing it to this day dog..

I watched time and time again where Garcia avoided hits. I even brought up a thread from 4 years ago saying the same shit. Someone even agreed with me that he was avoiding hits.

He is/was a good, above average QB but he is scared of taking hits. I seen that shit with my own eyes....

As a Qb you don't want to take hits. I personally think Garcia is a good qb and a hard cat. I think he's tough. I've seen him take hits before and hard ones only to get up. Garcia is hard in my opinion.
