OAKLAND, Calif. - An Oakland school principal is recovering after being pistol-whipped by an intruder while she worked in her office.
School district officials say Eyana Spencer was alone in her office at the Manzanita Community School in the city's Fruitvale district Tuesday morning when a man described as large about 240 pounds and disheveled entered the office and demanded money.
When Spencer did not respond immediately to the man's demands, she was hit repeatedly on the head with a pistol.
After being taken to a local hospital by ambulance, she was released later in the day.
Officials say she had stitches, but was not expected to suffer from lasting injuries.
With school out for the summer, Spencer was alone in the building at the time of the attack.
