it was more of a marketing move by LA Galaxy, he would sell shirts and people will attend games because of him. He has always been overrated.

Of course they are gonna be better. Our best athletes dont grow up saying "Oh i want to be just like Landon Donovan"

Id say its gonna take another 10-20 years before US is good at soccer.

Speaking of that though the wizards just changed their name to sporting KC and the new soccer stadium they are building looks awesome. So i will be attending games no matter how shitty.

I didn't know that you knew how every single person in the US thinks..

Some people like soccer more

but yeah good that you will go and support your local team, you might even get to see a manchester united pre season game against your team.

No i dont know what every american thinks but its pretty common knowledge soccer is the least favorite sport in america. So obviously all our talent is going to other sports.

And I see sarcasm in the man u thing. well see the thing about is i already seen them play at Arrowhead this year. And we won. yay

No I wasnt being sarcastic about man utd. Them and Chelski usually have american tours before their season starts.

And I don't care if soccer is the least favourite sport in the US, because its EXACTLY the same here, noone gives a fuck about it.

he's right. american kids definitely do not grow up wanting to be landon donovan

eventually americans will come around and see the beauty in soccer. might be a while though

my roommate works in marketing for mls and hears the board room meetings they have on how to make the league more appealing to the american public. theres been discussion about rewarding high scoring through points to get into the playoffs, but it seems like thats being pushed aside for just allowing 10 teams to enter the playoffs now. also they plan on having a new new york team...the cosmos.

ultimately though it comes down to more of our best athletes wanting to play soccer and when you have squares like donovan heading the league no kid wants to grow up to be a huge nerd like him. what we need is more rappers (not clint dempsey) telling the youth that soccer is cool

How about letting all players join the NCAA Soccer teams from any country. Ive known some good players that never see the playing field because they weren't born in the U.S but have been here most of their life.

Letting non-citizens go to college here in the US is frowned upon, unless they want to cash out international fees which are off the charts.

The only way that US soccer can take it to the next level is to start big academies where they look for talent at a young age like the do in Europe and seriously train the kids from the age of 10.

People play soccer here, but as soon as they get out of the youth league age and enter high school, they focus on the other more popular sports. There aren't any institutions that make it "cool" and profitable for a young athlete to stick with soccer like there are with other sports.

My 2 cents...

THE A-LEAGUE IS 100% SHITE FOOTBALL..

BORING FUCKING SUBPAR FOOTBALL.
ITS LIKE WATCHING AMERICAN COLLEGE SOCCER......

AUSFAILIANS DONT HAVE ANY EXCUSES BECAUSE YOU CAN ONLY PLAY THREE SPORTS AS IT IS, AND YOU MADE UP ONE OF THEM YOURSELF... SOCCER IS LIKE OUR 16TH FAVORITE SPORT AND THE MLS IS STILL MORE ENTERTAINING. THE NAMES OF YOUR "SOCCER" TEAMS DOWN UNDER ALONE MAKE IT WORSE THAN THE MLS...
YOU GUYS QUALIFY FOR THE WORLD CUP BECAUSE YOU PLAY TEAMS FROM FIJI AND QATAR TO GET IN.. LOL
