Gavin is gonna fight to have them change their name then? So they will be the Santa Clara Niners?

No, if they move to Santa Clara, which he is doesn't want to happen in the first place, he won't let them be The San Francisco 49ers, they would have to be the Santa Clara 49ers, which would cost them a lot of fans and make a lot of people angry.

Yeah...that's what I'm saying.

IF they move...you're saying Gavin will fight to have the S.F. removed from the name right?

And if that happens...then they will be the Santa Clara Niners. Or some other lame name.

Do you have a link or something that says that Gavin won't want the S.F. on the name? I want to send that to a friend of mine.

This is nothing at all compared to what the raiders did. Moving down to So- cal is some traider shit. Moving to the southbay ain nutting big at all! We're still reppin da bay!! I dont give a fuck what gavin says, Niners still gonna have the SAN FRAN name regardless.

Gavin Newsome said:
It just seems to me that you can't close down this discussion with the city on the 5-yard line
Newsom said Thursday that administration officials did all they could to keep the negotiations going smoothly -- and he disputed 49ers co-owner John York's assertion that the process of building a stadium in the city was too troublesome and too expensive.
"I'm the guy who has a 49ers football on my bed that I toss every night," Newsom said. "I'm passionate about that team."
"I and others want to appeal to the Yorks to come back to the table," he said. "Frankly, there is no deal from Santa Clara. It's just as speculative as our proposal, if not more so."
"The Santa Clara 49ers can be the Santa Clara 49ers," said Newsom. "But not the San Francisco 49ers."

I don't think Gavin will let this team leave, that would look horrible on his part. I feel like he's going to do everything in his power to keep them here, and I think they'll end up building a stadium but not @ the current location. Thats the whole problem, that area is not suitable to hold what they had planned.

They wanted a parking garage, but they said that the fans would not like that idea, because it would kill the tailgate parties and what not.

Thanks for the link MB.

I don't know...there's only so much Gavin can do. If York wants to bounce...he's gone...it is his team.

I'm thinking that Santa Clara is offering York a little extra $$$ in the pocket.

If the 49ers are unable to move forward with the project in Santa Clara, the team plans to continue its search for a location for a new stadium exclusively within the Bay Area. “The 49ers have called the Bay Area home for our entire 60 year history. We are a part of the fabric of this region, and we intend to stay right here where we belong,” concluded York.
