2004 Has Been A Good Year For The Bay...

Well it's the end of the year and the majority of the the Bay more well known artist have dropped their albums. It has really been a good year for the Bay. The Bay hasn't had this much going on music wise since the mid 1990's. From Goaple's Closer to The Federation's Hyphee, the Bay has been all over print and radio. Two Frisco giants gave classic albums in Messy Marv and The Mighty Quinn. You had Sean T, EA-SKI and Ric Rock killin on the production tip. New comers such as The Team, The Frontline, Turf Talk,Balance and The Federation all making names for them selves. The Thug Lord himself ripped Game a new ass whole, Latoya London should have won American Idol, Summer Jam was full of Bay artist...and the air waves kept pumping out Bay hits. Mac Dre (R.I.P) gave us one of the best rap dvd's around, On The Block was developed on KMEL, 40 got his own radio show, 40 sighned with Lil John, Cellski with Lil Flip, Keak, Messy, Balance, Frontline, Federation, Kontac and Erase-E, Zion-I, Goaple and others all made a mark in the National hip-hop press (Source, Vibe, XXL). TOOSHORT killed it with Shake Dat Monkey and Choosen...The Bay did a great job this year. This only going to get better. Almost forgot the great job Baby Bessh did, now he really had a hit single. I hope things continue in this direction...if you have more please add. :siccness:

Solid albums are a matter of opinion. I personally am found of Quinn, Messy Marv, The Team, The Frontline, Federation, Turf Talk, Mac Dre, Cell Ski's mix cd's, Ivan The Terrible's mix cd and a few others. I liked them as a whole for the Bay because they were all different, but they all were effective. But the Bay Areas biggest problem has been getting media coverage. The ball is in motion and artist are getting the chance to be heard. Radio is playing Bay artist again, and that is a victory in its self. Bay artist are doing concerts, think about it, the E40 set at Summer Jam killed every major lable visitor that came in town. I saw the 40 set with my own two eyes and he aswell as the others that came wih him shut it down. Is the Bay back on top...no, but it's getting better.

Real talk! Those were all solid-to-dope-to-classic (depending on the CD) albums. I also liked I-Rocc and Messy's second IZREALZ CD, the Fully Loaded mixtape (16s WIT ME), and the 40 Ounce Mixtape, and while they didn't go far enough to be classics, Laroo's HOOD JOURNAL, his BAY AREA MUSCLE comp, Mac Mall and JT's ILLEGAL GAME and their BLACK WALL STREET comp were solid CDs as well, and Yukmouth's UGA 2 is growing on me--I didn't like it at first, but it seems better now for some reason (although it still can't touch the first UGA CD). Just my opinion, though.

And even though they're not Bay artists, Never had a very dope CD w/ LIFE OF CRIME, as did Hurrikane J. with STORM OF THE CENTURY and Lil Cyco with STREET CHRONICLES.

It has been a good year to be a fan of westcoast rap, good for the ears not for the pocket.

If half the albums that are said to be dropped soon (Don Toriano, Jacka etc etc.) drop before the end of the year this year will be even bigger.

THE 40 OUNCE MIX TAPE IS THE BEST MIX TAPE IVE HEARED THIS FAR... BUT YUP BAY AREA WENT TO ANOTHER HIGHER LEVEL. FUCK THE MEDIA FOE NOT RECGOZNIZING. TILL NOW DEY IS.BUT SHADY FOE NOT DOIN IT BEFORE. BUT YEA I AGREE WIT U SAV-MAN. NEVER'S SOLO WAS SICK WIT IT. DID U EVER C DA VIDEO HE MADE ? BUT WAIT TILL 2005 YALL. I CAN ALLRADY TELL ITS GONE B WAY BETTER DEN 2004

i thought that chilee powdah album was tight, especially the last track over the garcia vegas beat that featured taydatay, great song. also, the highly underrated mac and AK hustle music volume 1, that album was tight, solid production from start to finish. nobody mentioned d-moe or equipto's solo albums. ummm what else, bullys wit fullys 2 was one of my favorite this year. m-dash came out with his first solo joint, i never got to take a listen but i herad good things.
