What Bay Area rapper is worth paying for a verse now a days?

Going with your choice, what's the most you'ed pay, or believe that artist is worth?

My honest belief is...it's a dying breed at this point.

Reason being that nobody is really going gold or platinum. Cd's are being sold within the circle of friends never really taking off and landing in the right hands.

Your thoughts.

from my view, you gotta ask yourself. "Why Am I doing a song with this artist?" Are you doing it because you yourself are a fan? Doing it as a selling point? Everyone will have their reasons for why and what they charge. It is your choice to say yes I'll pay... or no thanks I'll pass.

I've always believed in work for work... however some artists are accomplished more than others and want to be compensated for that very reason. You know it's a beautiful thing when two artists work together for the simple fact of making good music.

^^^^ Good point of view, but then you got the "nobody's" wanting to charge for verses. I think that's whats messin' up this Game even more.

I've had a few MoFo's want to charge me for verses and I ain't ever heard of em'. Or have an album out (that's really making sales), for that matter.

Personally, if anybody with talent hits me up wanting to work with me, my answer is always yes... Not saying it wont take a month or sometimes longer to connect on the track if I'm busy, but I'm always down to network with cats who got spits...
Now if some nobody comes up to me an they're recording their vocals off a computer mic, an their lyrics are shitty, I'm not just gonna say no, but I want something for it.. I dont feel that I should waste my time writting a verse an recording it if its really pointless.. But if they wanna meet me at a real studio, pay the time, an throw me a beat, or smoke me out a couple blunts than I'm all for it!
I've talked to alot of local Sacramento area/Bay area based rappers, and I always get a differant response... From free, to a few bills... But I think a hundred or 200 is appropriate I guess for a somewhat known artist who'll come tight... obviously someone like Fab or E-40 is gonna charge a rack or 2, but I'm not gonna pay that.

I personally won't charge somebody if I respect them and what they do, because I love making music and it is a beautiful thing when cats come together to make nice shit.

But like dude said, if the shit's alright, but it's not really gonna go anywhere, I'm going to charge for my time because I'm far too busy to fuck around with nonsense. Not because I'm the sickest rapper, but because it's business and time is money. If I don't enjoy it, I'm going to look at it like I'm a contractor for a business, and somebody is going to come out of pocket in order for me to deal with bullshit.

IF I were to pay an artist for 16, It would be because I'm a fan of their music...not because I think it will sell...'cause let's be real, underground artists don't sell more records because so and so is on it. If they did, Kobe Soz would have blown up.

I THINK THERE ARE SOME ARTISTS WHO ARE WORTH PAYING,IT JUST DEPENDS IF YOU ARE JUST LOOKING 4 A GOOD FEATURE 2 COMPLETE YOUR ALBUM OR TRYING 2 MARKET IT IN CERTAIN REGIONS WHERE THAT ARTIST HAS A GOOD FAN BASE.4 THE RAPPERS & LABELS WHO NEVER LEAVE CALI,IT MAY BE HARD 2 UNDERSTAND BUT THEIR ARE REGIONS WHERE THEY BUY YOUR MUSIC IF THEIR FAVORITE ARTIST IS ON YOUR ALBUM.

Yeah 40 is asking 10g's but its all about if u know him, are u sending him the track? Going in the studio with the artist....or catch them when they in your city and u can usually get a discount....any nobody asking for money is on 1...keep in mine though if a cat sold 5,000 units and u sold nothing...he is not a nobody

5,000 units? LMAO!!!! when you look at the broad spectrum...that's not even a dent in the Game.

That's the problem with this Game, MoFo's push a few thousand Cd's and they think they in major demand. It would take 80,000 plus to really make official noise in this MoFo known as the rap Game. And even then, it have to be a few thousand mile ratius (nationwide), for anybody to really take you serious as a factor. And even with that being said...there is a chance it may not happen.

5,000 units sold independent would be something back in the late 80's early 90's...

Everybody & they mama tryin' to hit that lotto now...the numbers have increased.

I never said the money wasn't good. Especially on an indie level.

My whole point (or maybe you mis-read it), is when people talk about 5,000 units sold: It ment that artist is on the verge of blowing up or in high (as in major) demand.
