JT's "not having had a hit single in 10 yrs." makes him a "fossil?" LMFAO!
One thing TerraPatch brought up that I must address: this BS about JT's "not having had a hit in ten years" making him a "fossil." WTF? Having "hits" and making good music are not the same thing, and if you think they are, you're a musical ignoramus.
The last hit JT had in terms of a song that got radio/video play was in '93/'94--I'll give Terrapatch that. But any music critic will tell you that just having hits DOES NOT MAKE YOU ANY MORE VALID than those who didn't: Britney Spears (for instance) has had many hits, but does that fact make her greater than, say, Chaka Kahn or Minnie Ripperton (who only had two or three hits)? I think not.
Another example: Frank Zappa only had two radio hits, but he's considered a genius. Most of his songs didn't become hits in the radio/video sense, or in terms of everybody "knowing" them, but that doesn't mean that he didn't make great MUSIC. That, too, is the case w/ many underground rappers. Ja Rule (for example) has had more hits than JT, but who's more valid in terms of talent? Just because people have "hits" doesn't automatically mean they're better musically than those who didn't.
Don't even get me started on all the great Folk, Blues, Jazz, Classical and World Music singers/musicians who have graced our planet for decades. Many of them NEVER had radio/video hits that everybody "knew", BUT THEY ARE STILL GREAT MUSICIANS and regarded as such. The critics don't say, "oh, they didn't have hits; they're irrelevant, or they're 'fossils.'" TerraPatch, I'd like to see you go to a B.B. King concert, and say, "oh, B.B.'s a 'fossil' because he hasn't had any 'hits' in decades." The Blues fans would tear you limb from limb, kiddo!
Similarly, JT's solo CDs post-'94, IMHO, all have songs that are valid and express feelings still relevant today. Maybe these songs didn't get radio/video play, but that doesn't make them less valid as MUSIC, nor does the fact that they didn't become "hits" make JT (or any underground rapper, for that matter) a "fossil", either, IMHO.
