Can someone here explain to me the Us welfare system ? I keep hearing conflicting reports about it.

So let's say I'm a 32 year old normal citizen who is out of work - what do I get and how does it work ? How long does it last for etc.

I want to say my old roommate got like $800 a week and it started decreasing at the 6 month mark. He had it made. I had a DUI at the time so I was riding my bike 20 miles round trip to work a $10 an hour job at a call center while that fucker stayed home fucking his girl and playing video games all day

that's crazy, but i say if it works it's worth it. A lot more of our tax money will be spent feeding/housing your average jailbird each month
I ain't hating on it by any means, but I feel like there's so many better ways to get people to not commit crime then free money. $1,000 per month per person seems like the type of money that could go towards some type of job training. They're basically giving them a pass to be lazy. Imagine the amount of people on the program who are still committing crimes too, just not getting caught lol the program is literally nothing more than a "pledge" after they go 6 months without a charge.

Just read the stats on the program. 21% of the people on the program have ended up in prison for gun crimes and the other 79% are only labeled as "not being suspected of new gun crimes" lol so who knows how much it's working or not.

So does it cut out completely at some point or just falls of to a certain level and then you can keep getting it indefinitely ?

if you just got fired, you damn near got 2 options. you can apply for unemployment and you'll get somethin every week for, not sure, but i think Matt's right around the 6 or 9 months. i know back in like 09 or some shit the government flipped the laws so the unemployment payments would extend. i dont know if those laws are still good or not since that was based on the economy fuck up back then. you'd get paid weekly based on what you were paid at the job you got fired from. they'd go back a quarter (or 2 or 3, i dont know) and base your unemployment payments on what you were getting back then. the math formula is deeper then that, but thats what they're goin off of. if you quit a job, you probably wont qualify for unemployment. but there's situations where you will qualify. unemployment aint welfare. its more like an insurance that employers have to pay into. but i think the government makes them pay into it. with that shit you can cash out like Matt's dude or you can get joke checks. depends on what you were makin. if you were makin $60K a year then get fired or quit for a qualifying reason, unemployment might be a massive pay cut since there is a cap. you do what you want with the money.

if you weren't getting unemployment, or maybe like damn near worthless checks, you might qualify for food stamps (ebt card) but you might not get a whole lot. maybe a couple hundred monthly. regardless if you quit or got fired. and if you said your homeless, you can get some vouchers to stay at a nice hotel for a few days. thats not section 8. and you probably wouldnt qualify for section 8 housing. you probably wouldnt qualify for cash aid (on the ebt) either unless you got some dependents. food stamps is strictly for food, even if you dont consider Sprite and oreos food. you cant buy alcohol or tobacco with food stamps unless you know the cut spots. cash aid (and food stamps would be on one ebt (debit) card if you qualified for both) could be used for food or clothes or anything that accepts ebt. you can also get cash out the atm. a few years back CA law was flipped so you would no longer be able to get ebt cash out of casino or strip club atm's. before that, it was perfectly fine. Clinton signed some law back in the day as far as limits for how long you can get welfare but it never seemed to have an affect on California.

If you have no side hustles and you have limited job skills and job prospects, and you not the type to find a way to get your paper up, and you are facing a layoff, the best thing for you to do would be to go on disability for stress or anxiety or some BS like that before the layoff (unless theyre laying off everyone and closing operations, or you violate their policies related to disability, you prob will come back to your job at a minimum for a while). Don't admit to drug or alcohol use. The disability system is being abused way more than welfare and it pays more.

LOL
