Raiders coach Tom Cable says the team has no plans to bring in free agent Michael Vick.
Cable says he has a personal interest in Vick because they were together in Atlanta, but he doesn't see what Vick would add to the team. Cable may be singing a different song if JaMarcus Russell comes out of the gate struggling to muster any semblance of offense for the second straight season.

Adam Schefter, who will be joining ESPN next month, reported via his Twitter account that the Raiders have agreed to terms with top pick Darrius Heyward-Bey, who was the seventh overall selection in April's draft.
Heyward-Bey could be on the field when the Raiders open training camp later Thursday morning. This is good news for both the Raiders and Heyward-Bey. The speedster from Maryland, whose selection was roundly criticized on draft day, needs to work on his consistency.
Thus, getting him into camp on time was critical. The Raiders and Heyward-Bey should be applauded for recognizing that. I will be at Raiders practice Thursday and I will report on Heyward-Bey's first day if he is in attendance.
Heyward-Bey was the first of five first-round picks in the AFC West to sign. Oakland has its entire draft class under contract. There are six remaining unsigned draft picks in the AFC West.

Oakland wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey has agreed to terms on a five-year deal, according to his agent, Ben Dogra. He has not signed the contract but is expected to Friday when he reports to training camp in Napa Valley, Ca. The Raiders started practice Thursday.

Where are the contract numbers? I didn't see them, well anyway Al learned his lesson from when JR held out. If you pick him at 7 you gotta pay him at 7. It's better to get the contract out of the way so he could be in camp on time. He'll show today or tomorrow, so he can get caught up with the rest of the offense. Al taking care of business as usual. I really don't care how much he was signed for as long as he signed.
^So that means Crabtree is going to be asking for scratch then huh....

NAPA, Calif. — Rookie receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey agreed with the Oakland Raiders on a five-year contract Thursday that will guarantee him at least $23.5 million.
A person involved in the contract negotiations told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity that the deal was agreed to Thursday, the day the Raiders held their first training camp practice. Heyward-Bey is expected to join the team in time for practice on Friday.
"I think it's big because we want him to be a big part of the offense," Pro Bowl cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha said after hearing reports of the deal. "Everybody was waiting on him to come in. I think that's great that he signed."
Heyward-Bey, the seventh overall pick in April's draft, will get a base salary of $38.25 million in the deal. NFL.com reported the deal earlier Thursday.

The Raiders, unsurprisingly, failed to find a taker for their 2005 third-round pick. Walter finishes his Oakland career with a 52.3 completion percentage, 3/16 TD/Int ratio and 51 sacks taken in 333 attempts. The big-armed quarterback never stood a chance behind a lousy offensive line, but the lack of athleticism and elongated delivery would have likely done him regardless.
