699 sounds more reasonable... But I have a feeling that Sony will take a larger loss per unti than the $150 or whatever Microsoft is losing on each 360. I see it coming out for 500 for a "Core system" and 600 for a "premium" system. I, for one, will buy a 360, AND a Revolution, for the same price, and wait the 3 years for the PS3 price to drop down to about 300, like it says in the article.

Theyll do somethin to knock the price down...guarnteed...they seem like they are in way over their heads...but theyll never put out a machine that cost more than $500...trust that....
thats exactly right. all the money is made on game sales and if no one can afford the console, there will be no one to buy the games

THE PS3 HAS BEEN PUSHED BACK EVEN FURTHER, THE SONY REPz SAID IT WILL COME OUT "EVENTUALLY", I AM SURE THE CONSOLE DOES NOT YET PERFORM LIKE THE DEMOz AND IT'z GOING TO BE SOME TIME BEFORE IT DOES.... AND IF THE PS3 IS $1,000, IT WILL GO UNDER.

Yeah, I still say 400 dollars for the system itself. 100 dollars for the harddrive itself.

They could sell together for 500, or I could see the system being 500, but no more than that. Didn't that areticle say it'll cost right now, $800 to make a system without harddrive. So, at 500, that'll be a 300 dollar loss per system. But, they said in two years, it'll be down to about 300 dollars per system, which will be a 200 dollar profit per system. And, then later it'll cost even less money per system to make. Plus, Sony has said they want the PS3 to last 10 years, instead of 5, so, it'll end up profitable, or even, and that's all they want. They are looking for Blu-Ray to become a big thing.

And, honestly.. If you're looking for a blu-ray player, you can either pay 1,800 dollars for a standalone blu-ray player, or you could pay 500 dollars for the PS3... Which are you gonna choose. Plus, the fact that Blu-Ray comes with PS3 will make it a top choice.. Something that HD-DVD doesn't have the luxury of having, because who is honestly gonna buy the HD-DVD add-on for there 360 for an extra 300 or whatever they'll be selling it for.

Sony has it thought out. But, honestly, I could care less whether they make or lose money on the system as long as they don't go out of business. And, as long as they keep on releasing sweet games.

Strange how the PSM article in last months issue has a big ass picture of a PS3 Memory stick, then... I must of just imagined it. According to PSM, Sony is going to use memory sticks instead of a hard drive to bring the cost down. The stik in the picture I have is a 2GB stick...

I think a harddrive is optional..

360 has memory sticks too.. I mean, you need memory sticks to take your saved games elsewhere... Plus they are a cheaper alternative to hard drives.
