Michael Jai White as Jax? Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade? Baraka and Reptile as homicidal maniacs? This footage from what looks to be the next Mortal Kombat game or movie trailer is brutal, disgusting, and perfect.

Reader Kev directed us to this video, featuring a realistic new take on the Mortal Kombat franchise that has more in common with movies like suspense and horror films like Seven and Saw than anything resembling the campy video game to film adaptations we've seen in the past.

Last we heard, Warner Bros. was looking to reboot the film franchise. If this is the fruit of that effort, we approve wholeheartedly.

More likely this could be a live-action trailer for the next game. Either way, we approve.

Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon has indicated that the next game in the series would be shooting for an M rating. "People want an M-rated MK....dammit we will give them an M-rated MK." This would surely do the trick.

This is way too much star power for a fan project. We're digging around for more information. Considering the timing of this trailer, however, we expect we might hear more as E3 quickly approaches.

I don't know.. I have a mixed feeling about this... I like the settings and camera use.
But somehow I can't help to get the feeling they will make it suck donkey balls though...

Damn that was fucking tight! If there is a new MK movie coming out, I hope that's the way it's going to be from that vid.

theres a ton of faggots hating on this in the comments section there...lol...
Some so-called fans of MK are confused about what Mortal Kombat is. My brother and his girlfriend both feel that they "destroyed the lore" with this trailer/feature. What they are confused about is that the "lore" has always taken a backseat in the MK games. They add story as they go along just as connective tissue and to keep some general idea of why the characters are fighting each other. The vast majority of fans couldn't care less about MK lore. They like the familiarity of the characters and their relationships. Jax still works with Sonya, Scorpion still uses the trademark spear, Reptile has the scaly skin and eats peoples heads, etc. Mortal Kombat was always supposed to be dark and sinister. The 1995 movie and its sequel were never that dark. They were about as dark and sinister as the Power Rangers movies.

Anyway, now that they've confirmed this to be setting up for a new movie, my day has been officially made.
