The bay doesn't need someone you can categorize or define (i.e. "we need Model A"). It needs someone who comes with something new and unexpected. Otherwise, we've heard it before. That's the truth.

Fa sho...

I understand what this thread is about but we can't compare ourselves to other conscious rappers in the game. The Bay's image is one of Mob status we've built this image up and of course we can change it. But old habits die hard and I don't think people are really wanting that type of change.

People say they're doing the music that is themselves but in reality we need to do music that's better.

The bays image? The bays image is a liberal one!! One who supports the underdoggs....This is where the black panthers came from!! Mob status?this is the bay and we do what we want...We are not Restricted to one kind of sound, neither should any other place for that matter......But this is the bay....theirs no place like berkley with all the history we have out here....They protest everything...and our music should show it.....

Sorry bro, you make good posts but this one I have to disagree with. While the era of MOB music that was coming out in the early 90s, underground was already stirring. The Bay isn't just mob, just like Joey said, we're the most liberal state in the US, and the bay is the mecca of liberal individualism.

ALSO for the rest, fools in this forum don't read other people's posts, just the first one. PLEASE READ OTHER POSTS, YOU'RE JUST DUPLICATING A LOT OF WHAT OTHER FOOLS ARE SAYING. 3 POSTS PRETTY MUCH HAD THE SAME CONTENT AS MY POST. KEEP IT MOVIN YOU BEEZIES.

I didn't mean to say the whole Bay image as being MOB but the face of music in the Bay. Sure there are a few conscious artists out there, but I feel the majority of the music being published in our location has lacked some creativity lately.

What the bay needs is for alot of these inexperienced rappers and producers to stop jumpin the gun. At least attempt to build your skills before you start trying to press up CD's and DVD's. Try to build up a following first. I mean you wouldn't go out and buy 100 pounds of dope if you didn't have a single customer to sell it to, would you. You're IN THE WAY! Do some shows... build your name... put some fuckin' work in! Stop wasting your money! Nobody is gonna buy your shit just cause it's on the shelves!

Just because you are a "concious" rapper doesn't mean that yo are dope. Allot of so called concious rappers are not up to date with in the ideas of the times. Plus based upon their messages they don't want commercial airplay in the 1st place. Zion kinda got air play, but the last song I heard from them on the 2Short Luvs the Bay comp...they were rappin about being Hyphy and blended right along with the go dummy crowd. I think Quinn does a good job of being able to mix it up and it sound authintic so does the frontline. When you REALLY listen past the radio songs those two have a constant flow of awareness in their music. Now I sometimes hear people throw their "I love my momma song" or their "stop the violence" song and it sounds hella generic, because on the rest of their album the message is the COMPLETE oppisite. The Bay needs to make music and stop trying to be the next hot spot. The Bay needs to have some loyal fans that SPEND MONEY on their cds. The Bay needs to stop trying to call EVERYTHING a movement. The Bay needs to stop thinking that songs about playin wit ya nose and poppin pills is going to get air play on commercial radio, because to most people DRUG ABUSE is not a fucking badge of honor.

^ FAB does what you said about two different messages. I still supported him though. It's more like he's doin the other shit to keep the young kids' attention and then try to reach them

"Concious" rappers are more up to date with the times than other rappers. They speak on what's happening right now, while other rappers will talk about drugs.

Why are you even talking about the radio? LOL Fuck the radio. Yeah Quinn does do a pretty good job of it. Frontline's hits don't really do that though.

I feel you...Fab seems like that might be his plan, but it's like he went too dumb. The good concious rappers are up on shit and that's why they are dope at what they do. I see what you mean about The Frontline as far as their radio songs go, but on their album they were talking about some real shit imo...and on more recently The Truth and that song They Call My City Richmond...they are mixing it up really well. Quinn I think is pretty much always on point and that's why he gets the respect he deserves.
