XBOX 360 Remote on PC

I just downloaded a N64 emulator and I wanted to use my 360 remote for it I have a wireless remote with a usb charger and I read on the internet that the remotes work with windows. I downloaded the driver and installed it but the remote wont work. Does anyone know what could be wrong. The only thing I could think of is that I have Windowsx64 and the driver is not compatible.

u need to buy a special adapter for the wireless if its wired it should work because thats how i have mine running

Thanks. That's weak it comes up that a usb device is connected. What is the adapter I need to buy and how much does it cost?
