If he wasn't the trigger man he can still face alot of time for covering up for the killer for all these years, conspiracy to commit murder ain't no slap on the wrist type shit people. At the time he was convicted there was big heat on gangster rap music and shit and I think X was made an example out of since he was the prime suspect in a major crime, his lyrics were one of the things presented in court that got him convicted in the first place. If he is innocent, they should let him out obviously I think he paid his debt for whatever role he took in all that.
