LOS ANGELES : If you've always wanted a piece of Michael Jackson, here's your chance – if you’ve got the money that is.
Julien's Auctions' Darren Julien announced Wednesday that the King of Pop will be auctioning off some 2,000 pieces of his personal items and art collection.
The more sought after pieces include the iconic glittery white glove seen in Jackson’s 1983 “Billie Jean” music video, and the infamous large iron gates of his now abandoned Neverland Ranch in Santa Barbara.
Jackson has been living as a recluse since 2005, when he was cleared of child molestation charges.
The auction is scheduled to take place in Beverly Hills next year from April 21-25, with part of the proceeds going to MusiCares, a charity aimed at helping musicians in need.
This is the first ever auction organised by Jackson himself.
Judging from previous years where a similar white glove and a pair of white socks owned by the singer fetched a whopping US$35,000 and US$15,000 respectively, auctioneers are expecting bids to sky rocket.
The singer has been plagued by financial woes in recent years however Julien's asserts that the auction was not a forced sale. Just last month, the singer was slapped with a US$7-million breach-of-contract lawsuit by a Bahraini prince, demanding repayment of several advances which the star has argued were gifts. Both parties have since reached an out-of-court settlement.
"This is something that Michael is doing out of his own free will. He is not being forced into it," Julien said.
The April sale will be broadcast on US television and online by the Auction Network.
