The Bears on Wednesday agreed to terms with backup quarterback Josh McCown on a one-year contract.
McCown, who played for Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz with the Lions in 2006, will serve as the team’s No. 2 quarterback behind Caleb Hanie, who has replaced injured starter Jay Cutler.
McCown, 32, has played eight NFL seasons with the Cardinals (2002-05), Lions (2006), Raiders (2007) and Panthers (2009), completing 57.7 percent of his passes for 6,584 yards with 35 touchdowns, 40 interceptions and a 71.3 passer rating.
While he worked with Martz in Detroit in 2006, McCown did not throw a pass while appearing in two regular-season games with the Lions. His last regular season passes came on Sept. 13, 2009 when he completed 1 of 6 attempts for two yards for Carolina in a 38-10 loss to the Eagles.
