Review of "Delicatessen" Mixtape by Dirt E Needlez
Moeses Soulright II / Mixed by DJ Mark 7

Moeses Soulright the 2nd, or the artist formerly known as Young Moe, brings us his latest mixtape release entitled "Delicatessen", a long-awaited debut album from the rapper hailing from the 415/650 area. This introductory mixtape packs 27 track altogether, 3 of these being bonus tracks. The entire album mixed by the legendary DJ Mark 7, who's work is well known throughout the bay area rap network and beyond, blending each track intro the next with a smooth transition each time and adding a few shout outs from some of rap music's finest.

Moe pays homage to life and the streets through his gangsta-style hip-hop, with dusty jazz bar undertones and an rnb melodic pimp infusion.Tracks like " Fillmore Nights " and "Im Gone " show this albums smooth and smoky, black n mild jazz side.
Lyrical creativity is diplayed throughout the album..for example
on "Gone with the Wind" moe states

"...And they wonder how I acquire amazing stealth,
Emotion running like lava I aint afraid to melt
Constantly stomaching evil, like satans belt
......all my people be gangstas, I be saving hell,
I like them cats that aint afraid to tell me truth
......instead of ones who talk like they tryin to sell me shoes"

"Hoe Season" and "All We Do" featuring Skee has the team going hard on them hoes lettin' em know what's really up. "Roots Reggae" , "Fingerpaints" , and "Battle Raps" show the broad vocal pitch and range that Moe has , the rnb jazz influence giving the album a good balance.
While tracks like "All You Can" brighten the album with a glipse into lighter side of life and with an upbeat toe tapper..introducing a few of Moes associates K'Leone and Rud Dog.

"The Sco" allows you to get to know San Francisco a little better through the eyes of Family Tyz, and Skee, while producer Unkle Sam put together a backstreet banger for the trunk.
Young Rebz also makes an appearance on "Cupcakin" , a dark melodic song with Moe once again showing his versatility and Rebs bringing that Richmond-based heat.

The cadillac knocker of the album is "Cold Pimpin", a rumbler of a track produced by Has...Moe gives hoes the back hand and cold shoulder over a bumpin bassline without missing a beat.
"The Story" and "Mom's Song" reflects back on growing up, ambitions, and takes you a few steps in the shoes of Mr.Soulright..paying respects to his upbringing.
If I were to select a radio ready single from this album, I'd recommend you skip to track 18. "One is the Loneliest Number" the sample on the chorus fits perfectly with the uptempo jazzy hip-hop rolling instrumental, a catchy track bound to stick with you.

" Walked out the house, no ride..... so im walking alone,
in a city full of strangers... so I thought of this song,
....if you ever felt alone then this song is for you....
I had aggression but im letting it all out in the booth"

Prepare to lean back with "Peacoat in 100 Degrees" featuring Skee and Des Real, a solid slumper for the summer.
The 3 bonus tracks included are some of the best of the album. "Aint For You" is aimed at unravelling the ups and down of relationships. "Fuck Dem" Moe speaks on the real and fake in life...While "Rest in Peace Rap" rips into you and exposes the oversaturation of the rap genre with a deeply moving message.

I give this album a 9/10 overall...there are no perfect albums, but this does come relatively close. Offering a wide range of styles and sounds, topics and tempos...a well rounded reality-based release, and easily one of the better releases of 2009 so far.The production fits Moe's style and persona almost perfectly, I ca play this album all the was through without having to skip a track, which is something I've only been able to do with less than 5 releases this year. Some may not be able to understand the depth of what Moe is speaking on during their first listen..leaving something new to be discovered with each listen.

If you aren't aware of who Moeses Soulright II is, this album will engrave his image into your memory. Be on the lookout for this album coming soon.

Baby Jaymes "K.I.M." Keep It Movin

This video was directed by Jon Primo, featuring an artist I am not familiar with by the name of Baby Jaymes.

This song seems quite mainstream and I coul;d easily see this video being played on BET MTV, or CMC. Baby Jaymes has a soulful and heartfelt voice as he blows his pain out over a RnB sounding beat..the instrumental used fits the artists voice, very cleanly mixed. There is one individual sound in the treble of the beat that is quite annoying and should real be left out, it reminds me of fingernails scrapin against a chalkboard, just with more rhythm. The artist hails from East Oakland and has a very positive sounding message with this song, I feel he should pursue getting radio play for this song and continue advancing his skills. The video direction is done very well, each scene blending into the next smoothly, the angles used and shots chosen show the directors talent and vision throughout the video...Some parts show the quality of the camera used, but since I have heard of either of these guys I imagine they are just getting started. Baby Jaymes lyrics are on point, his delivery is correct..he stays on topic and proves he is a diamond in the rough.

Keep an eye out for Baby Jaymes of East Oakland, and if you need someone to sing on your album I strongly recommend you give this cat a holla...

AND TO ALL ARTISTS THAT WANT REVIEWS HERE ARE A FEW TIPS

1. UPLOAD IT AND SEND ME A LINK, I HATE MYSPACE AND BY UPLOADING I CAN DO YOUR REVIEW FROM ANYWHERE WITHOUT BEING CHAINED TO A COMPUTER

2. INCLUDE A TRACKLISTING, OR TAGS YOUR TRACKS...INCLUDE THE ARTISTS THAT APPEAR IN THE CORRECT ORDER FOR EACH SONG...I CANT STAND TRACKLISTING THAT JUST SAY "SONG 1, SONG 2 ETC"'

3. BE PREPARED TO BE TOLD YOUR SHIT SUCKS IF I DONT LIKE IT, I'LL TRY AND BE CONSTRUCTIVE AS POSSIBLE WITH MY CRITICISM, BUT SOME OF YOU DUDES ARE JUST FLAT OUT ARE GARBAGE AND I WILL LET YOU KNOW "MY OPINION"...I dont care how many of you "friends" say your tight...if you are asking for MY opinion, you will get it...dont get butthurt and start making threats just cause I dont like your music....Giving my requested opinion aint hatin,it would be hatin if I were to say "i heard these cats got raped in county and trick off all they money on dirty cracked out hoes, plus they snitching on OG's and switching the gang they claim every week"

4. If you are not black but you use the word "nigga" like its the cool thing to do, I probably won't even bother reviewing your music...I'm not going to discuss why, its pretty obvious that your not creative enough to even waste my time on....end of discussion.

What's going down? My boy K. Real was interested in getting his song "Pomona Anthem" reviewed. The song features myself (M Dot Brando) on the second verse and one of his boys from Pomona called Prolific on the third verse. Good looking out with the reviews. Peace
http://www.zshare.net/audio/672598786d6e27d5/

Dude has a somewhat tight voice (reminds me of some San Diego rappers, but lyrically the first rapper is weak IMO...he's trying way too hard and it comes off as unnatural.., 2nd verse is a LOT better and outshines the first dude like a police spotlight. 3rd verse (prolific) is somewhere in the middle, I'd say dude is average...he has the ability just needs a little polishing. Whoever did the outro sounds like a white dude sayin "nigga" and I cant stand that, I might be mistaken but I just call em like I see it..my bad if Im wrong.

Yo, that Pomona Anthem song is nice. I agree with you Dirt E. Needles, I don't really like it when someone who isn't know or hasn't blown up talks shit at the end of song. But I peeped out that radio interview M Dot Brando had and i still think that Regal and M dot gonna have one of the best albums next year if their album is anything like that cut they played on the radio. You can download it off M dots myspace.

If you haven't gotten your project reviewed, now is the time....

Send me your individual song, video, album or mixtape to be reviewed...

This could either equal a great review you can use for your promotional material, or the cold hard truth right in your face so raw that you might consider another hobby.
If I like your shit....everyone will hear about it, but then again.....if your a garbage bag new booty with some wack lyrics, a copy of protools and some generic fruity loops ass casio keyboard beats I'm gonna break it down for you. I'm doing this to help all parties involved....zThe bay is overflowing with "rappers" Im just tryin to do some Quality Assurance around this muthafucka

For those that respect my opinion, hope ya'll enjoyin the reviews...and for those who's feelings I mite have hurt with my analysis...you gonna have to suck it up and tuff it out cause them record execs won't hesitate to tell you ya shit is trash and keep steppin.

We tryin to raise the bar due to too much bullshit is consuming the shelves, liquor store counters, ipod and bandwiths running thru the bay...

Step ya game up or get ya cd turned into a frisbee ya'll
