I don't know to what extent it "hurt" the site, but I do know that when you hit the prop button it reloads at the very least a portion of the page, if not the entire thing. And when you take into consideration how many props are being thrown around, it can be a drain on resources and bandwidth. I have noticed the site would intermittently lag over the past several months.
