MIAMI (Aug. 19) - A woman who set herself on fire at a Miami shopping mall last week has died.
Forty-two-year-old Cecilia E. Casals was pronounced dead Tuesday, less than a week after a shocking scene at the busy mall. Police say Casals covered herself in flammable liquid, set it ablaze and silently walked about.
Witnesses used fire extinguishers, but Casals was found unconscious with third-degree burns over 75 percent of her body.
She was burning for about two-and-a-half minutes.
Casals' husband and court records say the woman had a mental illness and had received probation in October in a prescription drug trafficking case.
