Good point. But E40 sells and sold way more then 10k

As a rap artist, you should be able to do ya rap thing and go to school at the same time. Raps a long shot even for the hottest youngsta. Hit up ya community college, or a trade school and take some real classes not music engineering, and pointless shit that won't get you paid when you done!

Anyone who doesn't have a back up plan is a arrogant fool that's gonna be a broke 35

ARITSTS WILL SELL CD'S IF THEY SPEND THE MONEY TO DO SO!!!!

MOST ARTISTS TODAY WANNABE CHEAP ON PROMOTION FLYERS AND THE WHOLE 9..

AND LIKE MOST BAY ARTISTS ARE STUCK WITH THE WESTCOAST HYPE WHICH IS ONLY SELL ON THE WESTCOAST!!!!

APPLY YOURSELF AND YOU CAN MAKE GOOD MONEY NO SAYING U WILL SELL 100,000 BY YOURSELF BUT U CAN DEFINILTY PUSH THE LIMIT OF 10,000 AND MORE

LOOK AT IT LIKE THIS

AN AVERAGE PROJECT COST LIKE THIS

MIXING AND MASTERING(BY A COMPANY)= 1500-2500

PRODUCTION=2000

FEATURES IF ANY DEPENDS

1,000 CD PRESSED= 1100 W/TAX

FLYERS=175

AND SO FOURTH FOR EXAMPLE THIS IS FOR A GOOD ARTISTS ON HIS OWN BUDGET

FOR LIKE 5500 FOR AN INDEPENDENT ARTISTS WITH THE LITTLEST OF SHINE

CAN ATLEAST SELL 1500-2000 COPIES IF THEY ARE GOOD SO SAY U MAKE 14-15K U JUST CAME UP ALMOST 8K AND UP

SPEND THE MONEY IF U HAVE THE TALENT

'

SALES HAVE WENT DOWN YES BUT IF U GRIND AND GRIND LIKE ALL ARITSTS DO THAT SHOULDNT BE A REASON WHY U ARENT MAKING MONEY!!!

well in response to ''yes'' post...most of the time it takes any where from $100,000 and about 5 years for the public to get familiar with who you are (meaning still not guaranteed to MOVE units). What new upcoming artist has that kinda time or money? So what happens is most of the time artists ambition begins to fade.

i agree with you homie; however the time and effort you put into each project isn't even worth the shitty income. 8k isn't shit and any real hustler knows that. A good quality album takes a minimum of six months to make. And then you got to get the graphics, distribution in stores, itunes, paypal, myspace promotion, flyers, shows, etc. at the end of the day im better of selling cars and making 12 gz a month with way less effort. Rappers are basicly getting paid way less then minimum wage if they don't have an investor to back them up.

What's the solution?
Stop trying to sell cds. There's other ways to make money as a rapper! If you still haven't figured out the other ways yet you haven't taken this game serious enough.

Why rap? If you are only rapping to get breaded, thats a good question. A real artist, in my opinion, raps for tha love of the artform, not a paycheck. If you got skills, drive,real talent, and you know who your audience is, you can work yourself in a position to make money in this game. Unfortunatly, a lot of new rap cats are just sheep, and they just do what they think is current, and tha shit comes off mad cliche. Remember, there are only a select few of corny muthafuckaz who end up getting lucky and have all of the doors opened for them, and you probably wont be one of em. So if its real to you, work hard, and dont expect much. If you end up being able to live and provide for your family from music, thank God and consider it a blessing. Its been said a million times, so let this be #1,000,001

REAL TALK!! YO THAT IS PRETTY MUCH MY LIFE STORY RIGHT THERE. THE RaP GAME AINT AS SIMPLE AS HIT THE STUDIO, DROP THE PRODUCT THEN COLLECT THE $$$$CRILL!

I GOT A JOB, WORKIN 6 DAYS A WEEK AND HITTIN CITY COLLEGE FOR 5, HITTIN UP MY STUDIO ON NIGHTS & WEEKENDS. I PUT UP MY OWN MONEY FOR FLYERS, POSTERS, & CDS AND HAVE BEEN ON MY GRIND HUSTLIN TO PUT CDS IN STORES AND STANDING OUTSIDE OF THESE VENUES I AINT EVEN OLD ENOUGH TO GET INTO IN THE COLD TRYIN TO JUK CDEEZ... IT'S HARD AS FUCK TO EVEN GET PEOPLE TO LISTEN TO WHAT YOU GOTTA SAY, LET ALONE BUY YOUR MUSIC.

SO WHY DO I RAP? CAUSE I FUCKIN LOVE MUSIC!! I LOVE MAKIN MUSIC, I LOVE WORKIN WITH OTHER ARTISTS, I LOVE HAVING SOMETHING PRODUCTIVE I CAN USE TO EXPRESS MYSELF WHEN A LOT OF MY PEERS AINT GOT SHIT BUT THE D-GAME, OR THE BLOCK, OR SOME OTHER FUCKD UP SITUATION.

I AINT ONE TO HATE ON THE NEXT MAN'S WAYS OF GETTIN PAPER, BUT IF YOU RAPPIN JUST TO SELL ALBUMS THEN YOU AINT IN THE GAME FOR THE RIGHT REASONS. IMA KEEP PERFECTING MY CRAFT AS LONG AS I CAN, EVEN IF NEVER SEES THE TYPE OF SUCCESS TO BRING ME BACK MAJOR LOOT. FEEL ME??:siccness::siccness::siccness:

Well it makes perfect sense to do it as a hobby, but to put your hard earned Money and all your valuable time into something with such low ratio of success, it just doesn't sound right. Life is too short to waste it on something so petty.

^^in adition to that you really think all the cars, jewlery, clothes, houses is from RAP money? LOL...most rappers got day jobs on the under on top of other ways of income. So basically what that is doin is giving young kids in the hood a fasad about being a rap star and ball out from it when its all a big ass front and its brainwashing them to throw all they're eggs in this basket that has a hole in it. Then when they realize it on they're own, its too late.
