didnt see anything on this, and ive tried lookin for an answer online, only to find that MAYBE the studio didnt wanna compete with the Toy Story releases that were set to come out the same time. Any guesses or did anyone read anything about this?
Reports attribute the pushback to Paramount not having "the financing in 2009 to spend the $50 to $60 million necessary to market a big awards pic like this," DiCaprio's unavailability to promote the film internationally, and Paramount's hope that the economy might rebound enough by February 2010 that a film geared toward adult audiences would be more viable financially.
I dunno what kind of push it would have gotten for the Oscars but now its completely out of the running in doing so. But i figured it had something to do with the promotion of the movie too.
Well it will be in the running for the 2010 Oscars now. If you read the article in the link i provided it goes into a little more detail.
The whole marketing thing is a bunch of bullshit in my opinion because Paramount has had more then enough money to market shitty movies like G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra ($150 million for marketing) and a bunch of garbage.
^^^yeah thats why i was confused...but again its going for a certain audience, "adult audiences" and it seems that audience always gets the shaft now. Everything is marketed towards younger people, maybe cuz they see more movies? i dont get it.
