I don't think Bay Area rappers don't make it cause they don't get the proper national attention or get the national appeal. When Hyphy was blowin' up, there were dudes who were gettin' looks/deals and didn't blow... As I remember it, The Pack, Mistah FAB, and The A's were inked with some kind of record deal. The Pack put out a cd or two, but was a one hit wonder with the Vans song. Mistah FAB's ghost ride video got 86'd cause of the Ghostbusters copyright and he came out with a bunch of mixtapes, but no CD. IMO FAB ran himself to the ground with the extra Hyphy shaboobalaboopy crap, you can tell he totally flipped the script with his more recent dumbed down backpack rap. The A's?? fell off the side of the earth.

The biggest reason, would probably be local support... the lack there of.

That doesn't mean that the Bay don't got potential though. IMO The Team, Bailey, Ya Boy, Davinci, Nio the Gift, Locksmith, Balance, Erk Tha Jerk, The Hoodstarz, Turf Talk, and J. Stalin have potential. That Loverance song sounds like it got that appeal too.

I have a hard time believing any rapper, especially about income. Unless they got major endorsement deals or something they are not making cake like that. The industry is fucked now days and people ain't making money like they were. He may be making more than 200K now but believe it's not something crazy where he can just drop cash on Maybach's and Bently's.

I don't doubt he could be making that kind of money, I just doubt he would be rapping if he was making that kind of money away from rap....

you know master p presented documents to the court that showed he makes about a 1300 dollars a month. when you have yourself incorporated you can really juggle your finances and make yourself look less valuable to keep someone out your pocket

No doubt, that is for the business people. But comparing a Bay artist to Master P or Rock Ross is apples and oranges don't you think?

yes from a logical point of view. industry wise or even with just plain old common sense it is ridiculous to even mention artists of that stature to a guy who sells a few thousand locally. but there is that street component that kind of evens the odds. hard to really speak on it and it is hard to separate who's really getting it and who's faking it

I hear you and I have nothing against this artist at all. I am simply saying Bay artists lose sight of the big picture because the streets are a distraction. At some point you have to pick one because there isn;'t enough hours in a day to do it all. That is how you get caught up in this kind of shit to begin with. At the ends of the day these artists need to quit worrying about what people think and do them. They would sell more music that way because then they are in tune with what is real.... Don't mind me, I am on some other shit.

the only reason why E-40 blew up was because he was on some other shit. he's always been on some other since before Jive, and that got him the after Jive life. same thing with Mac Dre. he blew up in the 2000's cus he didnt follow the script. those are 2 artists that you can damn near say all "bay rappers" are influinced by one way or another and look up to. but what E-40 and Mac Dre in his later years had in common is they did what wasnt the norm for "bay rap". everybody else just does the norm, for the most part. that can make you money, dont get me wrong, if done right. but there's more money out there if you dont give a fuck what anyone else thinks.

The A's were on TVT Records and tvt went bankrupt. They had other artist as well like Ying Yang twinz and Magic (from No Limit).

Maybe but then how do you explain the number of albums and mixtapes he releases? He had 8 albums and mixtapes last year if I count them correctly.

That's true for a lot of rappers, BTW - every year you release between 5 and 10 solo albums and mixtapes, plus group releases, plus features, you do a bunch of shows; when exactly do you have time do be out there on the street and be "active beyond rap"? And I am not saying this because I care about the street cred and authenticity of artists, I couldn't care less, all I want is some good music, but one can't help but wonder.

Bay cats don't get big for a couple reasons. 1. They do not form a solid team to run their business. No major label is gonna support, finance and co-sign something with no infrastructure. The two essentials to any artist like a real manager, a real entertainment attorney 2. Terrible business decisions. Bay artist always go for the immediate dollar. From doing features with wack artist to shows with bad promoters in horrible venues. If the only reason you are doing a collab or show is cuz of the money then you shouldn't be doing it. The top artist in the game don't just rap with anybody or just do any show. And that should be the same on a lower level for top Bay artist 3. Waiting for the industry to come to the Bay Area. The industry is ran out of NYC and L.A. You can make music anywhere in the universe, and have your fan base anywhere in the universe but if you want to network with important industry folks, get national press it's in new york and LA. So if you have no buzz what so ever in NYC or LA how would the industry know or even care? And there is two types of buzz, fan buzz and industry buzz. If your fan buzz is big enough then it will create a industry buzz in NYC and LA. You would be amazed how many heads of A&R at labels know about bay artist and want to sign them but because of these things they don't. Remember if they sign too many artist that flop they do loose their job so A&R's usually go for the job safe signings. So Bay artist I just gave ya'll more free game. Please give your self a chance and realize if you want something you have to go get it. Don't expect it to come to you and then complain when it doesn't.
