i been trying to think... why is the south on the top?

i mean, people say talent.....

who does the south have? soulja boy, D4L, gucci manne etc..(and some which even have ghostwriters)

then they say, make songs that are radio hits

what? i thought you needed to pay to get your song played on the radio!!, isn't that what artists do, pay for spins?

the real hustlers must be busy with the south
Unfortunately right now the south is out hustlin everybody. I lived in ATL for 4 years and I can tell you that whenever a solidified independent artist is droppin an album the whole south will know about it and their presence is definitely gonna be felt.

I only speak on this cuz I been blessed enough to live in a lot of places around the country and I see the differences in how they all hustle music.

isnt it a smart idea to do more promoting a month or so BEFORE the album comes out to build a more solid buzz?

You do NOT want to put your album out and then start promoting. That's the dumbest thing you can do. Only one thing happens if you do that. Your album sits on the shelf not selling units. As far as retailers and distributors go, an album that isn't selling is wasting space and it will be replaced by something else that does sell.

The bottom line is San Quinn is a regional artist, like it or not. Making a video and taking out ads isn't enough to break him nationally so before anyone dumps a ton of money into promoting his project, they better really think about risk/return. Especially at this time in the music industry when the cost of being competitive and the risk of loss are so high.

And by the way, I don't think some of you cats are even remotely close to knowing how hard it is to make a lot of money putting out these little cd's. Either that or my idea of a lot and yours are two different things.

From 04 to 06 LA was fully on tha BAY. The whole culture took over the young generation out here and they was on anything bay related. The clubs was bangin bay shit, the people where wearin dreads and airbrushed shirts and everything. You woulda thought u was in the bay at damn near every club out here. Do some research and you'll know. The fact of the matter is that LA is wide open market for any artist to come and get fans if they do it right. I swear the mentality of some bay cats is warped. Get out the bay and really see whats goin on in the streets of these places you talk so much about so you will really know what's goin on.

Also check soundscan before you talk about who's music is and isn't relevant in the Bay and in LA. You'll be surprised bruh.

Sometimes it sound like niggaz be saying we might as well quit pushing to other markets, cause they never gonna feel us. I think Quinn's 2nd most marketable asset is him as a person. If he stays on the road, as he is known to do, he will gain real fans by meeting them in the streets. All bay rappers need to get out there and start grassroots campaigning for sales like they are running for office. That is why 40 has a fanbase in all those cities in the south, he actually has ties to those cities and has for years. The hoodstarz is on tour with him right now. If they network in the day and do shows at night, (with that same type of humility and hustle that 40 has) they will be on there way too.

this is why the Rock did so well outside of the bay...Quinn was pushin hard to different areas and was steady being seen in the streets. Granted, Hell Yeah was arguably the song of the year(I say arguably because it dropped right before Tell Me When To Go, and it really had no chance to match the budget), but Quinn was everywhere up and down the Westcoast. Had a couple shows from San Diego, LA, and all the way up to Seattle and then spots here and there in Vegas, Denver, and other cities close to the Westcoast.
