Aye Juan, DICKHEAD, LOL....look what I typed before u came into this convo...

"If a person makes a BEAT, that person is the producer of the BEAT, they produced that, which does not make them full blown producers. If you make a beat, it doesn't mean you produced the whole track, feel me?"

There are three main reasons why you guys are confused about this. First, because you don't know what these titles really mean. Secondly, because whoever you've heard speak on this before probably didn't know what the fuck they were talking about. And third, because a lot of people perform more than one job in the studio. I'll try to keep this as simple as possible and we'll start with; fuck what you've heard or think.... Now..

A COMPOSER composes music. If you make beats, you are composing music. You are a composer, not a producer.

A PRODUCER guides the production of a song and has *SIGNIFICANT INFLUENCE* on its FINAL outcome. Meaning, they make fundamental decisions regarding the different elements of a song, which result in a completed piece of work.

An ENGINEER (recording engineer that is) is responsible for the actual hands-on recording. The engineer is the person who sets up mics and presses record/stop. Good engineers will offer suggestions and their opinions but by no means does that make them a producer. Unless, as I stated earlier, they've had *SIGNIFICANT INFLUENCE* on the outcome of the song.

These definitions ARE NOT negotiable and they DO NOT CHANGE. It makes NO DIFFERENCE whether you are doing rap, rock, jazz, pop, country, gospel, folk, or whatever the fuck.

If you're still confused then slap yourself a few times, take a deep breath and read again. Repeat this process until you get it! lol

DRE HAS BEEN KNOWN TO TAKE CREDIT FOR SHIT THAT AINT HIS. A FEW PRODUCERS ON AFTERMATH HAVE SAID IT, QUIK SAID.

LOOK AT DOOG FOOD, DRE DID 1 BEAT FOR THE WHOLE ALBUM BUT TOOK THE CREDIT FOR IT.

LOOK AT CALIFORNIA LOVE. KEY BOARDS AND PERCUSIONS WERE DONE BY SOMEONE ELSE. SO WHAT DID DRE DO? MIX THE TRACK. MIXING IS MAKING THE BEAT, IT DOSENT TAKE MUSICAL TALENT. IT TAKES AN EAR, AND HEARING WHERE EVERYTHING FITS AND FITTING IT PERFECTLY WITH THE BACK ROUND VOCALS ON THE RIGHT PARTS.

IF YOU THINK DRE IS A GOOD AT PRODUCTION. YEA HE CAN MIX THE FUCK OUT OF A CD. IF YOU THINK DRE IS GOOD AT MAKING MUSIC AND BEATS THEN YOUR FOOLING YOUR SELF.

SUGE AKA SIMON IS EXECUTIVE PRODUCER OF MAKAVELI. SO DOES THAT MEAN SUGE DID ALL THE SHIT FOR THAT. MAYNE SUGE IS THE MAN HE MADE MAKAVELI.

WTF? The producers are still doin' their thang. Daz, everybody knows what he's doin'. Johnny J just produced some shit for Tyrese's new album, and he produced a shitload of tracks from THUG LIFE up to All Eyez On Me!! Everything he produced for 'Pac was nothing less than GOLD!! Devante is still producin', I think Shock G still doin what he does. 2Pac did a lot of the co-production on MAKAVELI. The reason you don't hear a lot about the producers is because they are producers, they are BEHIND THE SCENES, that's what they do!! Dre got most of the credit for 2Pac's ALL EYEZ ON ME because he PRODUCED THE ALBUM!! Maybe that's why he got all the awards.

Hell yeah... Everybody knows all the producers who did Pac's beats. Dre, Quik DeVante Daz. Johnny J

An "Executive Producer" and "Producer" are NOT the same thing. An executive producer basically finances the project and usually has some final say with the record label (if he doesn't own the record label also) on which songs make the album and which ones don't. They usually arn't very involved with the creative process. As a matter of fact, most executive producers arn't typically in the studio very much, if at all.

That is, unless you're executive producer is one of those cats with a lot of money but doesn't know jack shit about how to make real hits. Those cats are green as a mutha fucka and pretty much just mess up the whole flow.

What he said.

I am the executive producer of my first album because I threw the cash out there, and I was the one to say what did and didn't make it onto my album. However, I didn't produce that album, because I had nothing to do with HOW the product got to where it was. I went in, did my vocals...Larry K handled the rest, he produced it...he told me when I fucked up and made me do it over again, he put the touches onto the tracks...then when all was done, I came in and decided the order of the songs.

An executive producer EXECUTES, he makes the shit go down. Without the bread, the shit ain't gonna happen.

I agree that beat on ambition is hella sick. Much props to daz if he was the one who came up with that beat for Pac. There hella more that somone deserves to get way more credit for. Pac could flow for days but if he was doing it to a wack beat, then whats the point. Its a waste of his and the fans time. Pac has some songs with wack beats that I will skip over. 2pac always comes hard but if its a wack beat I will skip that. So, whoever makes the beat is hella important that it be hella sick or else its a waste and should not be put out cause we wont feel it Give credit when its due!

have to agree with equipto on that about the bootlegs. i mean that's the only reason i have em. the beats on his new shit suck. all the songs that equipto mentioned all have the sickest beats on bootleg. they should have kept em that way.
