I just don't understand why people get a humongous dog when they live in an apartment, or any dog for that matter. Without a backyard, you're doing a disservice to the dog. Plus, you live in close proximity to other people, so if the dog barks a lot it is going to annoy the shit out of the people next to you.
Now I know some dogs, whether big or small, do fine in apartments, but that's mainly because their owners have their shit together. They walk the dog before they leave for work and immediately when they get home. They've worked with the dog and taught it to shut the fuck up instead of barking at every slight noise. But these people are few and far between. It seems like most people got the dog on an impulse because at the moment they wanted one, but soon after got bored and/or tired of taking care of it. Or maybe it's just the people who live in my apartment complex. Everyone that has a dog here has a big dog that needs a backyard to run around in during the day, but instead the lock it in their apartment all day and I get to listen to the dogs bark when I get home from work because the dog has to piss and/or shit really bad.
My wife and I want to get a dog, but we're going to wait until we have a house first. I just wouldn't feel right leaving a dog in the apartment all day. Besides, it could piss on something while we're at work and we may never know about it.
