why are cats droolin over this guy already?? taken nothin away from him he has good stuff but he's new and people have never seen him...thats why nobody is hittin him yet...take C C Sabathia for instance...another big lefty 6'7'' 280....went 14-3 his rookie year and followed it up with a 13-11....lets let Dontrelle play a few years before we induct him the hall of fame....
U really wanna know why Dontrell Willis is one of the most popular player in baseball already ? Heres a couple of reasons. First off he is only 24 years old and he is already a top 5 best pitchers in baseball. 2nd he has charisma, style, and has a great personality which is lacking in baseball players. The best player in baseball right now is probably Albert Pujols but nobody knows anything about him cuz hes so quiet and is not marketable. And Dontrell has the type of personality you can market and baseball is making alot of money off him. And the last reason why he so popular and I know it may sound odd but because he is BLACK. Its no secret that black baseball players are slowly fading because black people would rather play football or basketball rather than baseball. Other than Barry Bonds and Griffey, there is not alot of black superstars in baseball. Baseball is dominated by Latin and Whites. Its rare for baseball now today to have a black superstar let alone a black pitcher. I bet 15 years from now there will be more black hockey players than black baseball players.

he is NOT a top 5 pitcher in MLB he isnt even a top 10 let him get 100 wins before you guys consider him to be better than koufax

he reminds me alote of Kaz Ishii when he was with the dodgers. An AWESOME first half pitcher and a bad second half pitcher

^^ I think he meant top 5 right now, not all time. I still wouldn't say hes a top 5 right now, but he's got a bright future.

PS- Bob Gibson was better than Kofax :)

I didnt say top 5 pitchers of ALL-TIME !!! I was talking about top 5 pitchers right NOW!!! My top 5 pitchers right now is 1)Johan Santana 2)Pedro Martinez 3)Roger Clemens 4)Tim Hudson 5)DONTRELL WILLIS. With Rand Johnson's stuff diminish a bit, Curt Schilling not being healthy and out of shape, Roger Clemens almost at the end of his career, Dontrell is going to be a top 3 pitcher in baseball once those oldies move on and retire. And please dont compare Kaz Ishi to Dontrell U stat Geek. Dontrell's delivery may look funky and wild but he only has 8 Walks in 43 innings, hes on pace for a 235 innings and only 45 walks. Thats Greg Maddux like walk ratio, hows that stat for U? While Kaz Ishi is a Walk machine and has absolutley no control of his stuff. and Kaz is 31 and Dontrell is 24 so dont even make the comparison because Dontrell hasnt even tapped into his full potential YET. And as for your "After All-Star Break" performance, Again Dontrell is only 24 and his young arm is not built for 200 innings YET , he wore down because his arm is not built for it YET just like every young pitchers. Wait till he learns how to use off speed pitches and he will be just as good as Johan Santana. So stop searching through Google.com and Yahoo.com, and espn.com to look up stats and actually watch the guy pitch and realize how good he really is.

Wins and losses don't really mean shit. Wins and losses are based on team performance, not individual pitcher performance. You can pitch a complete game and give up one run, and still get the loss because your team couldn't hit the ball.

In 2003 he fell off after the ASB, but he was a rookie...

In 2004 Willis' ERA only went up by .06 while his WHIP and opponents BA went down. He started getting strikeouts more frequently too.

dont get me wrong he is pitching very good "right now" but to pick him to pitch a game RIGHT NOW even over a struggling johnson, schilling, old clemens, torn rotator cuff pedro would be to say the least picking the underdog.

With Rand Johnson's stuff diminish a bit, Curt Schilling not being healthy and out of shape, Roger Clemens almost at the end of his career,
Dontrell is going to be a top 3 pitcher in baseball once those oldies move on and retire.
once those 3 retire he still has HUGE leaps to make to prove he is on the same level as johan, hudson, mulder, prior, zambrano, sheets, beckett, burnett, halloday, penny, lowe, clement,

And please dont compare Kaz Ishi to Dontrell U stat Geek. Dontrell's delivery may look funky and wild but he only has 8 Walks in 43 innings, hes on pace for a 235 innings and only 45 walks. Thats Greg Maddux like walk ratio, hows that stat for U?
i never once did mentoin ANYTHING about his walks, did I ?? LOL

dontrell has a more/less 2.5 to 1 K to BB career ratio. big woopie! again i am not saying hes bad because the has the potential to be very good pitcher something around a High #2 or a Low #1 type pitcher

And as for your "After All-Star Break" performance, Again Dontrell is only 24 and his young arm is not built for 200 innings YET , he wore down because his arm is not built for it YET just like every young pitchers.
oh my then how did johan do it?? starting at the age of 23 he has never struck out less than a batter per inning.

last year in his first full year of starting he did this
Pre All Star GS/19 W/L 7-6
Post All-Star GS/15 W/L 13-0

Thats Greg Maddux like walk ratio, hows that stat for U?
before you start comparing him to maddox (future HOF'er) compare him to the #2 and the #1
pitchers on HIS OWN STAFF both of which have TRUE ACE potential and both of which have topped out at or over 100 MPH, one has already fired a no no. face it Willis is #3 on his own team!!!

Wait till he learns how to use off speed pitches and he will be just as good as Johan Santana.
at this point i think you are stretching again. i know he will be good but like i said earlier he is the 3rd best pitcher on his own team.

and actually watch the guy pitch and realize how good he really is.
i have watched him pitch and while he is very good he is nowhere near that of beckett or burnett

yes, i know i was just trying to show upstate that he needed to relax, its only Arril and willis only has 6 starts this season, just like Garland has 6 starts.
