I guarantee if Clear Channel fucked with half of you complaining you would fuck with them. Period.

Tehy are just a smart company that beat the competitors at their own game. Since when did being successful become illegal or a bad thing.

We loved Death Row when they conquered sales and airwaves because Suge was a street cat but yet he was fucking everyone in his camp.

I dont know, seems like a double standard. I work for Clear Channel now and they may not be the best at messing with local artists but they definitely make shit happen. But I think it is less of them not fucking with us and more of the fact that most cats don't have radio shit or the machine behind it to make it happen.

Evergreen and Channcelor owned KMEL before Clear Channel and they were just as corporate, the only reason you feel a different "vibe" is because in 93, 94, 95, 96 i.e "The Glory years" of the Bay, it seemed like everyone was on the radio in the Bay but it was just everyone had hot shit which isnt the case now.

Balance, Done DeaL, Keak Da Sneak, Jay Tee, and others are all enjoying local airplay and so did Kee last year so does that tell you they are playing favorties or just htose are the only people who had radio hits and a strong enough machine behind them to make it happen.

Please believe a lot more goes into making a radio hit then recording a song and taking it to KMEL.

Im not defending Clear Channel, Im just saying that sometimes we need to look in the mirror to find the problem. I know we did in our camp and that why thibngs are different now.

Also, dont blame the jocks, DJ's or even the programmers because this shit is decided at a much higher level than the #4 market in the country. It starts in San Antonio corporate and NY and sometimes in LA. And it has more to do with major labels than Clear Channel not liking local talent. Because local talent gets played at plenty of Clear Channel stations in the South and Mid-West.

Just my opinion though.

Peace.

B-12 - good post...

personally I hate how clear channel controls stations like they do... but your right, you go outa town, and station owned by them are playing there locals... so its not like Clear Channel sent KMEL a memo saying "DO NOT PLAY BAY AREA RAP"

I respect the hustle, and how they really capitolized on the market, just somtime its nice to have a different vibe

but I ask this... besides us underground hiphop / rap heads... do you think anyone else in the bay area really gives a fuck?

106.1 KMEL is located in San Francisco correct? I admit they do play a lot more bay shit but lest cut out the "bay area rap talk" and make it a bit more regional. Who besides Quinn does KMEL play from frisco? Nobody. Frisco right now got artists as hungry and talented as anywhere. I want to hear some 11/5, RBL, Cellski the cats that put it down as hard as anybody, that spit as hard as anybody, that grind as hard as anybody, and some real mutha fuckaz.....1

Just because a corporate monster uses their connection to create a loophold for them to monopolize America's most listened to form of media doesn't mean they aren't shaddy...smart business 9 times out of 10 comes wit devilish moves and thats what is going on. I am sure that if you didn't work for Clear Channel you wouldn't give them a pass for under reppin there area...and come on man you comparing Death Row to the mighty Clear Channel...a bit of a stretch...we may have all luved when was doin his thang because he represented a "street nigga" makin in the corporate arena.
