I recieved my new Sports Illustrated in the mail today (with "The future of the Lakers" on the cover, they had a pretty good article on that as well), and there's a cool "money list" for sports. We're used to seeing a top 50 money list for businesses and people like Bill Gates and music artists, but I've never seen one for sports before. I would just link you to the website, but they only post the top ten on their site. Thought you guys might like to see it so here it is:

(Golf)

*Note: This is their annual income (what they make in a year). Only currently active athletes that are U.S citizens were eligible. Total Salary included Endorsements AND annual salary and/or total winnings.

Some interesting things about the list:

- The amount of NBA players that make more money than the NBA's second best player (Tim Duncan) is insane.

- The only two women on the list are sisters.

- The New York Yankees have 5 players on the list, all in the top 40, once again proving they have no salary cap (lol).

- LeBron is the youngest person on the list, but is third in salary. Lucky bastard.

- Tiger Woods only pulls 6 million from golf, but 70 million in endorsements. The Willams sisters get a million (Serena gets two) from tennis but over 14 million in endorsements. Agassi? 2 mil from tennis and over 24 million in endorsements.

- On the flip side- Rasheed Wallace makes 16 mil in salary but only 300,000 bucks in endorsements. Manny Ramirez makes 23 mil in salary and just 250,000 in endorsements.

- The Orlando Magic have two of the top 15 players on the list but were one of the worst teams in the NBA this season. I knew Grant Hill was gettin' paid but damn.

- The New York Knicks have three players on the list but were swept out of the playoffs.

- All of the top 5 teams in the NBA's western conference have at least one player on the list, while the team with the best record in the league (Indiana Pacers) have no one on it.

- There are 24 NBA players on the list.

- There are 4 NFL players on the list.

- There are 0 hockey players on the list.

- Tiger Woods is the Bill Gates of sports.

why does that surprise you? before i even clicked on your post I guessed tiger woods was number one

good guess genius, he damn nearly only doubles the 2nd highest person...good call...but I agree with you, there was no real shocks on there....maybe it would of been more shocking if that NBA list hadnt gotten posted a few weeks ago, the other sports people seem to get paid about like they should

basketball players get paid more cause think of the amount of players on a team

approximate numbers
hoop - 12 active players
baseball - 25 players
football- ??? 56 players?

you would figure the individual sports figures are easier to market - thus would probably have more opportunity for exposure and money
