We need a COOP Siccness interview with Bizzy to claify this..LOL
That can be arranged.
These topics always make me laugh. Who did it first, who's style was it originally? C'mon now. Fast rapping had been on the table way before Bone and even Twista (who claims to have originated the style). Onyx was flipping it, Treach was flipping it, plenty of cats were flipping their tongue before Bone. There's 2 main differences, one is the fact that you had a group of 5 guys that could all do it together (unheard of at the time). Also, when it was done in the past it would be a track here or a verse there, but Bone did it for every track on their album. But the main difference and what sets Bone apart from all these others that flip it fast, is Bone harmonized as well as spitting fast, slowing down and harmonizing all in 1 verse. When 'Creepin On Ah Come Up' dropped back in 94, can you honestly say you had heard an EP like that?
You go from 'Mr. Quija' a straight acapplla w/ all 5 members, then into 'Thuggish Ruggish Bone' which wasn't that fast of a track then into 'No Surrender' which Bone just tore up and then they bring it down into 'Down Foe My Thang' & 'Creepin On Ah Come Up' and then speed it all back up and harmonize brilliantly in 'Foe Tha Luv Of $'. That is what set Bone apart and that is their trademark.
Sadly, Bone no longer uses their original style. 90% of their hooks are done solely by Krayzie and most of their tracks are not as raw and fast as they used to be. They've dumbed them down so to speak. But I will say, from what I've heard from 'Uni5:The Worlds Enemy' they may have brought some of that back, but not entirely unfortunately.
So it's not a discussion of who did it first, it's really who does it the best and in my opinion, no one does it better then Bone.
