The White Stripes said the Air Force Reserve made unauthorized use of their song “Fell in Love With a Girl” during an ad that ran in selected markets during Sunday’s Super Bowl telecast.

A statement on the band’s Web site said the song was re-recorded and used by the Air Force Reserve without permission. The statement is attributed to the White Stripes and label Third Man Records.

The two-person rock band originally from Detroit said it takes “strong insult” to the ad and says it implies the White Stripes “encourage recruitment during a war that we do not support.”

The Air Force Reserve, in its own statement, said the music used in the ad was original, and it never intended to use any existing music or “to sound like any music by the band White Stripes.”
