If it wasnt for hip-hop, there would be no rap. Hip Hop has more to do with image and way of life than music. When you see people sprayin buildings, chillin with their people on the corner, baggy clothes, the ebonics/slang, break dancin, the freestyle battles, etc...thats hip hop. So mainly hip-hop is based on the lives of inner-city people. Rap is just a way of life you talk about thru your music. Actually, rap began when groups like NWA, and the rest talked about political things, criticizing the government and spoke of violence of their city. When u see people ridin in fancy cars in their videos, flashin money, havin all these models dancin around...that aint rap. I dont know what that is, but that aint rap or hip-hop.
i think hip hop is a sport and form of self expression, feel me rappin, d.j.in, m.c.in, and graph, you express ya feelings and like most of ya'll said ya everyday experiences and what you go through, but then you also compete to see who can express themselves in the most creative way tryna see who's the nicest na'mean? but now the nicest has to have a mansion, platnum and all that bullshit, people use to compete just to be the nicest that was raw, it was real, you didnt win a contract or millions of dollars, you just won the respect of others, you did it so others would be like yo, this guy got skills he aint no joke he can do this and you did it for the love, that's the most important thing that's what made hip hop authentic, now the commercial game fucked it up cause now what's it for? SLUM VILLAGE put it best that TAINTED LOVE that bullshit
