You can probably get a lil 80's Nissan,Mazda,Toyota or even a Chevy S10 pick up, those lil trucks run for a long time and are cheap on gas.....

Just hit up the cars section on CL and type your max at 2000 my brother is the king of cheap cars on craigslist. He picked up a 95 Camaro for like 1200 and my girlfriend got a 93 Golf for $1000 she actually could have talked them down but she is too shy about that kind of stuff. My first car was a dodge intrepid (actually I drive a newer style one now) and one that is 97 or older will go under 2000 and they are big cars with decent power. Good luck.

id go with an acura/honda early 90's years.. good on gas.. cheap insurance.. cheap parts in the event it was to break down.. they last forever. Or a toyota.
