There's nothing wrong with being an artist. Going from rapper to artist should be a natural progression, especially if having longevity in the industry is on one's mind. Thinking outside the box created hip hop, so why would you hold rappers to rigid standards? I don't get it. I agree the borderline homo clothes gotta go, but there ain't nothing wrong with expanding your audience by giving your fans and/or potential fans different looks (musicwise).

Cats really need to chill the fuck out. i mean m.c's been harmonizing and singing, or trying to sing since day one. Look at all the old school cats, on through Biz Markie, etc... Now don't get it twisted, I prefer a dope emcee like a Nas or a Rakim, or some real good gangsta sh*t like Daz, BUT the real issue is QUALITY of music, and what the record labels push and what mainstream radio plays. In that mix it is hard to find good music. Rap these days is Pop Music, let's face it, and so many of todays "artists" are not artists, they are actors.

i have no problem with rappers singing their hooks if they can do it well.
