For these mics what is good and bad in the frequency response department?

In other words, how can I tell if one is a piece of shit or not?

for jay duece......it depends on what u are using the mic for.

the mic that i linked is a dynamic mic.....which are the the types of mics u see on stage.....they are inexpensive and make good all purpose mics.

there are also condenser mics......these are more sensitive and have great frequency response......they use these to mic like stringed instruments and they are also used for vocals. but these mic require phantom power amplification from a pre-amp.(more expensive mic)

if you are big on quality......ask to try it out first......listen to the clarity and also listen to how it handles "s" sounds.

if you just want a clean vocal track....for like something that aint gonna be released commercially or for a cd that u just passing out just so cats can hear you........get the dynamic mic.....just about any of them will work.

but if you got like a mariah carey in the booth or you try to get a professional album together......get a condenser mic something like a AKG C3000B Condenser mic.

cheap alternatives

i am assuming you have a decent soundcard with a 1/8 " line in

spend $150-$200 on:

get a budget mic pre like an audio buddy or ultragain

and pair that with a standard dynamic mic like a sm57/58 or a condenser like the sp b-1

check eBay might be able to get both for under $100

and download something like protoolsfree, it will give you 8 tracks of audio, alot of midi tracks, and some basic efx plugins which is probably all you need for what your doing--- and it's free

thanks for all the help yall

basically we are just tryin to record somethin decent on a computer the little come with the comp mic isnt cuttin it

the reason I asked is because when T.C. suggested the radio shack mic i went lookin around on the net for different ones

i found some really cheap ones on ebay and then some that are about the same price Radio Shack has just always seemed like a jack to me, sellin low quality shit fairly expensive

best buy had some Sony brand ones and a couple others but I guess we can just get that one from radio shack.

thanks again
