A post off the AP9 and Spice 1 album info made me think of this...

What happened to all those dudes that brought the heat in the mid 90's like

Sam Bostic
One Drop Scott
Mike Mosley
Femi Ojentude (I think he does movie scores now. Is that the same guy?)
Studio Ton
Tone Capone
Rick Rock

And a grip of others I can't remember off the top of my head. Where have all these dudes gone? No one can argue that a big reason why the cd's were better back then was production value.

You forgot Ant Banks and Bosko. Anyway there's threads on here right now bout Mosley and Bostic and one about Rick Rock. But from the sounds of new bay beats I'm guessing there no money in it anymore cuz the new beats sound free and lazy.

They all went on hiatus when the hypy movement came in and became irrelevant to the new sound. Which was a passing fad and ended up killing off not only those producers, but the whole movement of the Bay in one shot

For every producer that fell off... There's a Cozmo n a Traxamillion... A Goblin... A Indo... A Mougab... Music evolves n if one wants to stay relevant they gotta keep pushn wit the latest equipment n new sounds... Ur talkin early to mid 90s look at how different the music is made now... I don't know jus my 2cents...

people dont pay like they use to. i remember bay area producers gettin 5,000 to 10,000 for one beat. now rappers go download free beats or try to make them themselfs. their pride and morals wont let them adapt to the new era of selling beats for 100 or 200 or giving some away so they are sinkin or sunk.

I grew up on all the bay area music of the 90's. All the production seemed widely accepted in the industry because the producers focused on full fledged production rather than using just a drum machine and a keyboard. It consisted of strings, guitars, live drums, horns, as well as the digital pieces. Its all good though because there are still producers making noise as they should be. Keep it pushing Yay Area!

you aint lyin. thats the realest shit that can be said about hip hop today.

i remember years back i read an interview about Mobboss. I think Mike Mosley said he would fuck around with the drums, sounds and shit. Sam Bostic knew music, so he would fuck with melodys. shit sounded full, and more musical. that goes for all them 90's producers. Neptunes got non to minimal-melodic, drum based beats hot, and it seems like everything nowdays blossomed from those roots.

word up. the only hyphy track from a 90's producer i ever heard was Cuzzo What It Do by The Mossie, which was produced by Studio Ton. and that beat god damn slapped!

Studio Ton is the only one out of all the 90's ones that i think coulda stuck it out with hyphy. his beats always had a little samethin samethin. that ODB feat 40 and MC Eiht-Shimmy Shimmy Ya beat was hyphy-ish.
